Hill trails more fun? W1R2

2 runs in and I think I have found the key (for me)...woods and hills! About 30 years ago I enjoyed fell running, stopped and then 15 years ago did a very slow marathon....I hated everything about that marathon, particularly the training. So I have started this program by trotting through hilly wood trails.... and the concentration and variation required seems to be the key! Time zips by, the dog gets a good workout and I even enjoyed it. It seems to be the answer for me.... I wonder if I will get to do fell running again? Has else anyone had this journey (or is on a similar one)

Offroad running is definitely my favourite.

This was a run I did last year. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Another vote for off road,x although I do run on both. You can't beat a muddy trail or the sheer variety of terrain. I have a love/hate relationship with hills and although I am painfully slow when tackling them, I know they have made me much stronger! And of course, being out amongst nature and seeing the seasons change is beautiful - great that you are rediscovering the joys again! Good luck.🙂

Thank you - the good thing is the need to keep your eye on the trail stops the boredom!

Good morning,

We'll done!

I am keen to know how you get on. I have worried about gradient a lot. I am well over 16st, so perhaps IIT is just the thought of shifting my great mass uphill...

What sort of running shoes do you use for muddy areas?

Having the advantage of lots of outdoor shops near me, I have opted for a pair of INOV-8 shoes to start me off - sort of mixed terrain and not too technical. If I start to go more vertical, which means coming down as well - then I will upgrade to something else...but they are greta and I can feel the ground in them! Not waterproof...but neither am I :-)

Thanks.

I will keep it simple with flat pavements until I am more accomplished, then I may look into different sorts of runs.

Good running!

Me! I love it 😃

I’ve done a couple of fell races but only teeny tiny ones with none of the technical carry on.

I love being on the trail and away from traffic. Great fun 😃👍
