do i start today!?!

so i'm a newbie!! At 44 years of age I went for a run with my 22 year old son on Wednesday, having not run for about 30 years! (i do walk daily so am not completely unfit!) obviously now realise how foolish this was..did first 1k running and the next 2k alternately running and walking. Fnished in 26 minutes and was very chuffed with myself until i got up the next day!! now suffering with muscle/joint pain in places i didnt know i had muscles!😲🀣 having now found the couch to 5k programme i want to do things sensibly. my question is...do i start now with all my aches and pains, or wait until they've gone. i'm raring to go and dont want to loose my motivation but also dont want to damage myself! TIA

Start slowly and follow the programme, it’s designed to build your running legs and avoid long term injury. My son is 18 and leaves me for dust (as expected) so I know your pain. Don’t forget your test days, resting and repairing muscles is as important as running... runners are built on rest

... good shoes! Get proper running shoes with gait analysis done at a running shop.

thanks cliff. I've had a day rest since that first silly attempt so do you think i should be okay today or should i maybe start the programme tomorrow? πŸ€”

running shoes on my list as currently borrowing my daughters! not ideal but wanted to see if i could commit before spending money.

Rest until you feel comfortable continuing, sounds like the first few weeks will be fairly straightforward for you, good luck!

Take a rest and start afresh, w1r1 and follow the program and don’t forget to post your progress as we like to hear from you. All the support you need is here.
