WEEK 5 JUMPS

Is it just me or is Run 1 5mins Run 2 8mins Run 3 20mins alarmingly big jumps for 1 week. I presume there’s good reason but just finished Run 2 & found 8mins ok but had a bit of a shock when I saw next jump is 20mins!

Just done the second run in week 5 and thought it was easier than the first week. So far C25k has worked. You will be fine You need to trust it. Well done 👍 for getting this far.

Honestly?

It is fine :)

I did it so I am sure you can do it!

Look at the overall workout length between warm up and cool down, unless of course your brisk walk does not expend any effort.

W5R1=21 minutes

W5R2=21 minutes

W5R3=20 minutes

Where is the big jump?

Just believe in yourself and trust the plan that has got you this far.

No, R2 is 16 mins running if I remember correctly. If you only did 8 you must have stopped halfway through the session I’m afraid. There should have been a 4 min walk followed by another 8 min run. Are you using the app?

8min run without walk progressing immediately to 20min run was my point. I did the full run with two 8mins.

I was able to do the two 8 minutes, but not the 20... I had to take a few seconds in between. I'm not sure what I should do at this point though.

Do I carry on with week six and hope I can make it without stopping (which I tried and failed) or do I repeat week 5? Previous weeks I have impressed myself on how far I've come , but recently it's put me in a funk because I can't keep up with the program.

Most I can do is 15min - after that I feel ruined

hehe ... Give yourself way more credit than you are. You ran for 9 minutes total in week 3 and then 16 in week 4! There's a jump you've already done ... this time you jump from 16 in week 5 run 2, to 20 total in run 3, a much smaller jump.

Also, what IannodaTruffe said :)

I feel like we should probably all have a button to press simply to insert: "Also, what IannodaTruffe said :) " at the end of our comments. With another one at the start of comments with "As Oldfloss says" :D ;)

Don't worry. You're not the first to think/ feel that👍

Have faith... You'll surprise yourself 😉

I thought exactly the same and wondered if I would be able to manage it but just go with it and trust the tried and tested method.. I have never run before and I have never been the sporty type but I have just completed W8R2 tonight!

Good luck and enjoy it x

W5R3 sets the majority of us into a flying funk but guess what, the majority of us go out and run it 1st time round no probs.

Just think what you've done in r2 8 mins run, 5 mins brisk walk and 8 mins run totals 21 mins so you're not going to be doing as much.

Just remember to take it nice and slow, start of at snails pace and then slow it down and you'll be fine

Trust the program... you will manage it👍 Just take it slow🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Trust the program. I’m beginning to think C25k is a cult 😉

I thought this too but after reading posts about this run and listening to other's feedback it gave me confidence that the run is more than achievable. Get over the first 8 mins and the run actually gets easier. With each hard pace, I knew the next would get easier. The longer you run, the easier it gets. Seems nuts but it's true. You can do it!

Thanks for all the comments. I may not have sounded like it but I’m confident I can do it & any future steps. Was just interested in the science/evidence behind steps. Is there info on who designed the program & evidence behind it? Would be an interesting read. Cheers.

Whoever it was they are a genius imo. I’m interested in evidence based stuff too as so much of what is touted in the media about health and well being is based on misunderstood interpretations of research. And too often it’s been funded by some industry or other and that is never mentioned either. I loved your tongue in cheek comment about the cult!

C25K was created by Josh Clark of the company Cool Running in 1996.

I've just got back from doing my second run , found it a lot easier then run one , so hoping number three will be the same

Phew 😅 I thought I was the only one who thought that. I was absolutely certain I wouldn’t be able to do W5 R1 but did it with the mini beast from the east trying to put me off my stride. I’m hoping there’s no snow on tomorrow or Friday as I’m really worried about the next 2 really runs! I guess as everyone says I’m going to have to “trust the app” and let Michael Johnson work his magic 😀
