Week 4 here I go!

Yes, after two weeks of working up to it from week 3, tonight I decided it was time to go for the proper one! I was tired, cold and hungry, and about as far from wanting to go for a run as it’s possible to be, but knowing that I’d feel better for running than for not, I got changed and headed out into the cold and dark.

Of course, as soon as I was out there my attitude changed. It’s another clear, starry night here, no-one around, just peace and quiet... The first run was as heavy as always, but then the first five minute interval felt much better. Oldfloss , I hope you enjoyed our run, as you were definitely there reminding me that slow and steady is good!

The next three minute run was nice and comfortable, as I knew I could easily manage it, so all that remained was the last five. The gremlins tried to appear, but I reminded them that I knew I could do this, as it’s only a minute and a bit longer than I’ve done the last few times. And then I wondered if they have their own forum somewhere called ‘5k to couch’ where they share tips on discouraging new runners! 😉

A bit of counting breaths and realising how much fitter I’ve got in the past few weeks, and it was done. This time when Laura said ‘you’ve run for 16 minutes’, she was right! I had. I have. I can do this! :D

I'll be doing Week 4, run 1 tomorrow so was great to read this, very encouraging. At the age of 66 I have never run in my life before but I have found it all quite manageable so far. I'm aiming to do a Park Run with my daughter and granddaughters in April when I visit the UK from France.

I did enjoy our run... you did wonderfully :)

I love your post and the idea of the Gremlins having their own 5K to Couch forum :)

Just move on from this point, and keep it slow and keep it steady, and you are going to continue to be fine. Each run you are doing is making you stronger, and those running legs are building up, ready for the longer runs, too.

The image of you running in the clear cold night with the stars above you, is enough to tempt even the most reluctant runner out... well done!

😂 😂 😂

I love the idea that the gremlins have their own forum, 5K to Couch. You may well be right, as all our gremlins seem to pick up new tips and tricks for trying to put us off our running. But you beat them, that's the main thing. And you have the beginning of week 4 in the bag. Well done. :-)
