What did it? Cup of tea or new hair cut? Park run 5 musings .

After last week and the inside out leggings glitch I decided to get up a little earlier so I could have a cup of tea before setting out. 20 seconds off my time! Or was it the very short new haircut making me more aerodynamic ?

Please tell me I’m not the only sad person who is thrilled to get the park run email, it means that I really was there and I’m on a list yay.... I scroll (endlessly) down the page to see my name in print. I study the columns trying to see what they mean , I look at the people who do stupidly fast times and breathe a sigh of relief to see that they are a) at least 25 years younger than me b)they belong to the something harriers, beach runners,or other athletic sounding club c) I have a higher age related score than some people much faster than me.

Anyone here familiar with the slow walkers syndrome? You know when you’re out walking with a group who tear off at a million miles an hour then sit and wait for you at the top of the hill? Just as you wheeze up to them they say ‘oh good you’ve made it- let’s go’ they’ve had their rest and you’re left to stagger off after them . I feel a bit like that if I go to the cafe after the run I wobble in with red face looking for a sympathetic chat only to find people returning their trays to the counter ready to go home ...ho hum the loneliness of the late arrival at the ball.

In September I didn’t think I would ever get past week 4 now look at me park run posting.

The real test for my new found running legs is to see if I will continue whilst away on holiday - trainers packed and now I’ve said it publicly I have to do it .....

Haha! You're hilarious, great post! If your trainers are packed you know you're gonna to do! Have a lovely holiday.

Thanks, I’m looking forward to setting out in the warm- took the daring step of buying running shorts safe in the knowledge that I’ll never see anyone who spots me back in England

If you arrive late to the cafe at least you can get a seat! (Also, only the cool ones arrive fashionably late! I know as I am one of them too!) :-)

Yes we enter with dignity and heads held high don’t we? 😂

.... while wiping away the sweaty hair, trying to find some heat as you are frozen while hoping there is still some cake up for grabs! ;-)

Clearly I would never scroll the park run results. It's outrageous. Nor would I download the data to a spreadsheet so I could see how I did in % terms adjusted for age or where I came within my own age group using the filter function in Excel. (FYI copy and paste but use the destination format in Excel)

Ha ha, you really make me laugh! A girl after my own heart. This running lark is often very funny. It sure does help if you have a sense of humour

running on holiday! Lucky you. It's the bees knees. Even running while away from home for a day or weekend is brilliant

Have a great time!
