When you're down and troubled and you need a helping hand

and nothing, nothing is going right.

Close your eyes and think of us and soon we will be there

to brighten up even your darkest nights.

*******

You just call out our name, and you know where ever we are,

We'll come running to be with you again.

Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call and we'll be there, rain or shine, you've got a friend.

*******

Hello everyone and welcome to the Catch Up Corner... slip off your shoes, come on inside.

Plenty of snacks this morning... I found an old favourite recipe book hidden in the cupboard and am trying out some new, healthy snacks and some very tasty ones too.

Okay... now we are here...time to chat.

I had my post for today all ready, but after reading some posts and replies this week and last night, I changed my mind... and it was a phrase I read, used by our wonderful Admin' Annieapple (I hope she does not mind me quoting her)?

She said, in passing, to we team members, whilst we were discussing all the ways we can support all our running friends,

“...It’s so good to see some of our couch posters interacting and encouraging each other as we used to… “

... and she is so, so right. It is really heartening, when we see runners here, looking at other posts, reading them and replying to them !

That got me thinking, (always dangerous), and I fished out an old post, ( some bits included here), ... still as valid now, as it was then, and so pertinent to me, as Mr OF and I, are currently going through one of the scariest and trickiest times we have had in our lives.

Because of this, I have been thinking a great deal about friends and friendship.

My friends here on the forums, have helped , quite literally, to keep me going these last few weeks, and I don't just mean, running!

“I have, over the ten years, ( nearly), since I joined the C25K family, made a heck of a lot of friends. Many are my faceless, forum friends who I talk to, but have never seen face to face. Some I know better, because I have seen photographs of them, and a few, whom I have seen in person and got to know even better.

There is, also, probably, with many of us runners, somewhere, a friend, or family member, who is there, with us and for us, understanding, patient , (?), and very, very aware of all the times we take a run.

Our early runs, gained by creeping quietly, ( ?), through a sleeping household, our late night runs, when all the rest of the family want to do, is to watch TV or go to sleep. Our trekking here there and everywhere, to events here there and everywhere? Taking up any spare space in suitcase, rucksack, or car with our running gear !

It cannot be easy for them, unless they are runners too:) I wonder how many of us have tried, to no avail. to get them running too..? :)

Goodness... these our true friends indeed!

They are our heroes and heroines, our rocks and our strongest supporters. “

BUT...what about our RUNNING friendships. NOW, we're talking... and TALKING is what we LOVE to do.... about every aspect of our runs: our routes, our stats, distance, pace, speed, running gear, running events, weather, and even injury … we love talking about running.

To our non-running friends... this may sound like gobbledygook! But if you are a runner, it is music to the ears:)

Our running friends are trustworthy, and reliable...there for us no matter what. They understand!

Our running friends, support us and encourage us; the chatting about running gives us ideas, strategies, motivation and maybe even a little bit of healthy, fun based, not comparison, rivalry ?

We love to talk, but, we also know when to be silent; when, during a run, it is perfect to run along, shoulder to shoulder. Simply enjoying the run and the companionship of the friend at your side. No need for words.

With our running friends, we don't need to dress up, or look smart... we just look at the run, the route and the weather, and dress accordingly, and no one would dream of telling us we were inappropriately dressed ! A running friend does not care what you look like... you are a runner and you are a friend.

I have made some of my dearest friends here, through running. Friendships made here, that will endure, whether I have been able to meet these friends face to face or not.

So.... how is this relevant to YOU, here and NOW on the C25K journey?

If you are just starting on your running journey, you have, perhaps, not had chance to make friendships here yet, if not, it is time for you to have a good look around, read each other's posts.

Find folk who are on the same week as you, team up, on your posts maybe...Run together, yet not together.

We have had, in the past whole groups of folk here on C25K, all reaching the Graduation Podium together, after supporting each other through the nine weeks:)

If you take the time to do that, you will realise, how much you have in common, the fears, the worries, the successes and the setbacks...and you will experience friendship that will carry you forward in your running and beyond :)

Okay... time for you now... pop in and let us know, please, what is happening with your running right now, have you linked up with others here. Have you started to follow other runners so you can keep track of each other and support each other. I love reading my friends' posts, when their name pings on my in box!

Reading a post can often give me the motivation to get out there.. MissUnderstanding 's posts are great for that, giving me a friendly shove, ,, thank you Miss U.

So !

Looking forward to see who pops in and I am going to tag a few new runners here, and hope they pop in !

That is so true, HU is probably the reason I carried on running once started, reading about what everyone else is doing spurs me on. The times I needed support and a virtual hug so many runners stopped by with just that and oh boy when I got sick and ended up in hospital this summer there you all were again willing me to get better and start walking and running again.I don't usually bother joining challenges anymore because I've learned I start strong and fizzle out but this Active 10 walking challenge encourages me to get out even for a short walk.

So, yes, I sang along to the song and thank you all my virtual friends for being here and sharing your stories of running, walking, life and love xx

Hello and welcome.. good to see you here, having a rest! You deserve one.

You are so right... the support we get here, from each other is super isn't it! I wish that some of our newer runners could find the support and friendship that you and many of us have found. I think the times when we really need help are the ones that mean so much, but the times when our successes are celebrated too !

I am glad you sang along!!! We are all singing with you x

Hi Floss 🙋‍♀️

Love this post, and that song really does say it all. ❤️

For me too, finding HU and seeing that there were others 'doing' the c25k plan too, and being able to ask questions, or find answers to them in past posts from knowledgeable members.. To find I could share my worries and my highs... and then to acheive my GRADUATE badge, making new friends along the way, is definately why I am still running.

As you say, no-one else in my family runs, although Mr BBr did the plan with me initially and graduated. He never joined in with the forums and so didn't get the running bug like I did.

Our chance to meet up and run means such a lot to me, the event we have is perfect, and we enjoy a no pressure fun in person run together. On my solo runs I always have you and other forum friends with me too.

We will keep running together and we will keep smiling...

Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall...

🍁🍂xxx

Hello you ! It does, doesn't it... we know our friends are here:)

We feel their friendship and their support, even as we make our runs alone:)

The answers to questions, and the tips and advice, yes...the practical side of our learning to become Graduates of running:) So, so important!

I remember Mr BBR running now.. I had almost forgotten that! yes.. he did.. so at least you could and can talk about it :)

Yes, the meet ups are so, so special and so much looked forward to.... and when we meet, it seems like we are all old friends?

Running together , vicariously,. it means that there is always to chat to and to have chunter too !

Thanks you, so much for calling in today and showing our running friends, just how special these forums are.

Stay a while and we will see who pops in! xxx

A superb post Floss! Your words are so lovely from the song especially on such a gloomy, drizzly day that we have here. I dragged myself out earlier and went on a 40 min run, it was invigorating and it was great to be out in the autumnal drizzle. I feel so much better as I have been crazily busy. Also I remembered to do some shoulder rolls too to eek out any tension in the shoulders. There were a few dogwalkers on my journey, some were more reluctant than others to venture out in the gloom 😀

Hello and welcome to you! I apologise for not being here to greet you yesterday!

I was a real fan of Carole King...and the LP Tapestry, I still have :) They do suit our forum so well and, I am sure she would forgive me for tweaking her words.

Gloomy and drizzly days... gosh, yes. They can dappen the appeal of a run, but not for you! You got out there and you ran for 40 minutes... and what is more, you enjoyed it.

My goodness, I really do hope that some of our runners read this... and they would see that even on the hard days, the runs can be, to use your word, invigorating.

You used that run, to ease a work burden, to relax the shoulders, to embrace the world, even in its raincoat!

I often smile when I see the dog walkers, some , very reluctantly as you say, wending their wet way. The dogs seem cheery enough though!

Thank you so much for coming to the Corner, always a cushion here. Maybe, sit a while today too. Fresh pastries and some delicious fresh baked, breakfast muffins xx

No worries Floss, we all get so busy with everyday life.

Carole King's song is wonderful, and so uplifting! The older hits are often the best! Small wonder they are often re-mixed these days 😀

How great to have Carol King as our music as we chat!Like many others, I'm sure this forum is what kept me going. It (and Bridge to 10k) is the kindest, most civilised space in the whole internet. Supportive, informative, interesting, all those things that other social media generally aren't.

As time passed I got to 'know' people. As in real life all different - the truly lovely ones, the ones who are a bit grumpy and all the shades between. Not gonna name names to spare blushes, but far more of the former.

Having progressed from 'definitely never gonna be a runner' to being 'someone who takes their running gear on holiday' has been a journey. Thanks to all who have been there for me, now I'm trying to reflect that back for all those who still can't believe they'll ever run for 30 minutes 😁

Hello and welcome... thanks for making the journey today! I quite like the idea of some quiet relaxing music sometimes... :)

You are so right... all friends here, all different, just like our non running lives... all wonderfully unique.!

Yes... you are most certainly a runner who packs their gear for holidays... and you are one runner who is a perfect example of those who support other runs here on the forum too!

Thank you so much for coming in today , please, do. grab a snack to eat on the way back to Greece!

Enjoy the sunshine whilst you are able :) x

Thank you OF, yes this forum has definitely helped me. Completed C25K again earlier this year after a lull, but for the first time ever I now consider myself a runner, even though I am a lot slower than I used to be. That is thanks to everyone here, who have boosted my confidence and shown me that 1. I’m not alone in all my doubts etc and 2. Slow and steady is the mantra to adopt, ignore everyone else and do this for me! Thank you everyone.

Hello and sorry not to have been here earlier! Hope you got a drink! And a snack !

This reply is great to read and just the kind of comments that all our new runners need to hear ... I am so glad that being here, helped you so much... and gave you confidence to continue.

Slow and steady, is my very favourite mantra and yes, you are right... we may run on our own... but we are never alone :)

Thank you so much for sharing this with us ...please pop in again !
