2nd Park Run & new PB for 5 Km

My 2nd park run and I have been practising during my weekly runs to not run too fast at the start and save the best for the last couple of K's. It must of paid off as today my official time was 29 minutes dead which beats my best ever 5 Km for all my running by 23 seconds. As has been said on here before I think park runs improve your running not because of a competitive streak but just because you are running with others and can use them to motivate yourself. As well as using Gary the Garmin to watch my pace I was keeping up with other runners who were running at the pace I needed to do to get a good time.

Hope I haven't peaked to early and future park runs will be harder to do!

Happy running everyone

Thanks Aliboo, the Woodley Park Run has a couple of inclines not hills so I am glad about that. Some of my runs during the week if I choose particular routes have hills so I do them often to help build stamina but pleased there are none at the Park run.

Thanks PP I am really pleased but also concerned that I might have peaked too soon, set the bar too high too early. I was third again for my age VM60 -64 but don't think I will catch the two ahead of me as they are running it in just over 22 minutes and just over 26 minutes so content to stick with the bronze medal. December I am 65 so I might sneak into the silver position for the next age range :-)

Fantastic, well done you, and my Garmin is called Gary too :)

Hi JJ, I think Garmin names have to be alliterations so I did think about Geraldine or Gertrude but I need a short name to talk to especially if I get out of breath on the longer runs you know the thing "How much further to go Gary", "How is my pace Gary" or is it just me who talks to Gary the Garmin on my runs!
