I'm doing couch25k on my treadmill first before I go outside. Will it be a lot tougher outside? The reason I'm doing this is because I have Psoriasis Arthritis and the treadmill, I feel, maybe easier on my knees???
Anybody else doing this on the treadmill? - Couch to 5K
Anybody else doing this on the treadmill?
Some people find outside easier, some harder. I only run on the treadmill if there's snow or ice outside it makes my legs hurt. Other people say the opposite.
One important thing, if you haven't done it already, is to go to a specialist running shop, have your gait analysed and get proper running shoes. That will alleviate a lot of pain and injury risk. Obviously don't go to the expense of running shoes if you've only just started the program and are not sure if you are going to finish.
Thanks for replying, I have been to a shop for shoes fitted and had to walk then run whilst they checked my feet and legs. It was very helpful having an expert on hand. Shoes are perfect. 😁
I am! I know that if I'm outside, I'm more likely to stop, whereas if I'm in the gym on a treadmill, I can see the time ticking down and it spurs me on. I did Week 4, run 1 this morning - and all have been inside. I did the programme about 4 years ago and all of that was inside, but I'm hoping that once I finish week 9, I may actually have the confidence to go outside and have no pressure on me! Hope your knees are holding up ok.
I did the whole thing on a treadmill in a gym with workouts and it suited me just fine. My first outside run was just after I graduated and I managed a much better time than indoors. I prefer the treadmill because I’m paranoid about injuring myself on the hard surfaces where I live. There are no grass verges etc and using the gym means I get a chance to to use the other equipment to boost my overall fitness. I don’t get bored or dread it as others do. I put on the TV and just go.
Treadmill is harder for me 😐 and I get more pain ... try it outside for a few minutes outside and see how you feel. I prefer it ☺️
It is different... and some find it easier and some harder... this is your journey and you do it your way...
Outside, there is little control, of anything, weather, seasons, surface and terrain..inside.. you control most things
But outdoors is amazing.. so much to see, so many new routes and places to get to...
