Everyone says running is a cheap activity. :)

But there are in fact lots of lovely temptations to spend money... It's quite possible I have enough running tops to do me till 2020, for instance. I have purchased six running belts - I wore out two, lost one, hated one, have two left (one for running with the dog and one with water bottles for longer distances on hot days) so am thinking I might buy another one for normal and dogless runs...

But these are the purchase I've made most recently and I'm very glad I did. I thought I'd drop by and tell you about them. For new or (like me) newish runners, these may be something not previously heard of. YAKTRAX (other brands are, I'm sure, also available) fit on the outside of your shoes and you no longer need to let fear of slippy pavements keep you in when snow comes. I've tried them out and think they're totally fab. :)

PS Sorry if this is a topic that's been thoroughly covered recently already. I don't get the chance to visit this site as often as I used to. :(

It’s definitely the first post I’ve seen on this topic. We’ve not had ice or snow, but I do already own something similar for walking shoes.

Nice! Have you used them yet? I've heard of them and am in need of a new pair of spikes since my cheapy drug store ones are getting pretty worn, especially after today's run where I definitely needed them for parts but not others. I took them off and carried them for part of it because they're not the most comfortable on clear asphalt. I'll be waiting with bated breath for your yaktrax review once you've had a chance to try them out 😆

Yes I have worn them once, last week. The pavements in Perth were an inch or two deep in icy snow. I would NEVER have tried running on them normally but off I went and didn't even slip once with them on. I wish I had had them in December. The snow has - mercifully - melted.

Unless you live in the Arctic it might take a few winters to justify the outlay i suppose. :)

How uncomfortable would they be if you had to run a patch on clear pathways? We have some wicked ice right now but then there are stretches without ice where you don't need them. It is really annoying running conditions right now. I wish we were full-on winter or full-on spring. I've had enough of these up and down temperatures!

They're fine on bare ground too. The spikes are very short.
