This evening I completed the dreaded week 5 run 3. Feeling really chuffed with myself because I had to abandon my first attempt at C25K last summer due to injury after week 5 run 2. I ran the 20 minutes at a slow steady pace and at the end I felt that I still had something left in the tank, which was good considering the runs keep getting longer.
I learned a few lessons from the first attempt. The first was to slow down. Looking back I was probably running too fast first time around. Also, this time I am being more flexible with the program. I don’t feel the need to stick to running every other day. If I don’t feel like running I won’t force myself to do it just because it has been two days since the last run. Sometimes it will be 3 or 4 days between runs. In fact, week 2 took three weeks to complete the three runs. There has also been the knowledge that I can get this far because I have done it before, but now it is into the unknown and week 6.
Time to put my feet up and finish off the last of the Christmas cake.

Congratulations, Conquering the 20 miutes is a huge leap forward.
A word of caution though: Week six Run one, although it looks like it should be easier going back to run/walk, is deceptively challenging and catches almost everyone out. You can do it, but do not feel deflated if it seems harder than you expect.
I've also finished W5 R3 today. Big jump to 20mins but it wasn't as bad as I'd feared. Went so well that I registered for Park run today. I'm feeling confident that in about another 4 weeks I should be able to get around OK.
I have 4 grown up children and so the target this year is to do a Park run with each of them in their new home towns then perhaps finishing with us all running together in my home parkrun.
I did my local park run during week 2, just followed the week 2 podcast and then walked the rest and jogged across the finish line. It was a great experience and everyone was very welcoming and encouraging. Hopefully I will try and do another in a few weeks.
Great idea to do the park runs with your children.
Well done!! It took me a while to face Week 5 Run 3 as I didn’t trust the programme. As lots of people have said, it was definitely a turning point where the prospect of 30 minutes running suddenly seems possible!
