I’m 22 and I’ve started c25k ready for the inflatable 5k run in Peterborough in March along with doing general fitness in my house

Any advice for my husband who is already struggling with week 2 run 2, he is 19 stone and lacking motivation!

Go really slow. Like comically slow. Some runs will feel hard, don't over-analyzing them. Just take your rest day and get back on the horse. If you need an extra rest day, take one.

Do you run with your husband? Some people do better running with friends and family, I'm a person that needed to do the program on my own, at my own speed. There's no way I could have run with my OH. Now I can run with people but the program was personal. On the other hand, I've got friends that don't get out the door unless they have a friend with them.

Happy running.

Yes we are running together, if we didn’t we probably wouldn’t leave the house to do it! Once he’s out the house doing it he’s okay and tries to keep up with me but as soon as it gets a little bit difficult stops! We have done 4 runs so I’m hoping that it gets a little easier for him as I know he is desperate to lose weight! Yesterday he found he has lost 5 pounds in 1 week so hopefully this will motivate us for our next run!

He probably needs to drop to his own pace rather than keeping up with your pace 😃

Motivation has to come from the individual. For me at the age of 57 when I started, it was to avoid being in the same situation as so many of my slightly older friends were, which was suffering from heart disease, diabetes, stroke and various other life limiting conditions that arose from being inactive and in most cases overweight.

It is so much easier to build exercise into your life when you are still reasonably healthy rather than have to try to introduce it when recovering from a stroke or heart attack. By doing C25k he will probably find that he begins to enjoy it as well as statistically reducing his chance of succumbing to the conditions mentioned above.

Go slow and it is fun, go fast and it is a slog.

Yes I hope he starts to enjoy it, running is something I have always loved doing for leisure and competively but due to my health I haven’t been able to. The fact that he agreed to do it is a massive milestone so we will see what happens.
