Hiya. Only just discovered this place. On week 9 run 1 and am amazed that I have run (shuffled) for 30 mins (having never run in my life and am in my 60s) but wondering if my sore hips are normal. Sore while running and sore still .... any thoughts?

Maybe running a little too fast, slow down, drink plenty of water the day before you run.

Thanks. Am running - sort of running 😄 - very slowly but I will try and drink more ....

Well done for getting so far. When I started on this journey I suffered from knee pain and found doing Flex and strength exercises, on this site, helped enormously, as well as specific knee strengthening ones. I think it helps all the muscles etc work together better.

Thanks. I will try and find those exercises.

Hiya. I have tried to find the flex and strength exercises on the site but couldn’t find them. Where do I go for them? Thanks

Hi I’m also on week 9 run 1 - completed this morning! I’d never run before and am 69. I had a soreish hip the first few weeks but not since I got proper gait analysed running shoes. I was speaking to someone who runs regularly last week and she asked about my shoes. She said I would get sore hips and knees without good running shoes. So I pass this on as a possible reason. The shoes were expensive but I’m sure they have made a difference and I bought a second pair online much more cheaply. Congratulations on getting this far. I feel so relaxed after I run!

Congratulations to you too! Not sure I have got to the relaxed state. I will have a think about the shoes. Guess it depends on whether I am going to keep on running. Bit ‘chicken and egg!’ My physio seemed to think my shoes were ok but they were not expensive and I don’t really know what gait analysed means! Will have to look into it. Thanks again for your help

Gait analysis happens at the more expensive running shops. It helps them recommend the right shoes for you. Usually you run on a treadmill with a camera that records how you move. This helps them know if you need neutral or other running shoes.

Hiya to you too! I'm about same age as you I think. I did c25k about 18 months ago. I found that various things ached on my running journey! None of this was serious and often just an extra day or two rest did the trick. If you get any serious pain though then please do stop and get it checked out.

Oh.. welcome to the forum!

Hi, I had the same problem initially but with the odd extra rest day or two it went away...now that I've arrived at the 30 minute runs it's come back again. If it's the same area, mine is just below my love handles, then I think it's the hip bursas playing up...they are fluid filled sacs that you have which can be aggravated by overuse and cause inflammation. It can turn into bursitis but mine isn't that bad, I'd suggest googling it for more info. I found exercises online to help strengthen the area. Hope yours eases off soon 👍

Just looked and I found the stretches on Google, headed as 7 IT band stretches on runnersworld.com...hope this helps.

Hi.

I am in my late 60s and only started running in January. I am fortunate not to suffer pains. I would recommend 2 Brufen, if you are able to take it, before your run. Pace yourself but if pain persists or gets worse I would walk.

Good health

Im new too. Late 40’s with arthritis so i get sore too plus my knees dont seem to like running. I have to wrap my knees for support. Im hoping the running helps with this in time. sometimes i shuffle too lol so don’t feel bad. I did run 1 three times cus im struggling too much to feel confident moving on to a harder run right now
