W8R3 ..... with dog!

I have no idea what possessed me to think that running with my wolfdog would be a good idea but I wanted a running buddy! We managed the run although with a few pauses for her to sniff some interesting trees and dodge other dogs along the way. So I ran for an extra couple of minutes at the end to make up for having to stop the app every 5 minutes! Next run is definitely going to be a solo one! Anyone else managed to run with their dogs and keep them going?

This is what puts me off taking my lurcher with me 😀

A Lurcher would be a fantastic running pal!

You haven’t seen my Lurcher! Scared of just about anything that moves! But yeah if normal temperament I would agree.

My dog and I have completed the program today! We do live in a very rural situation where she can be off lead all the time, but I have enjoyed the diversion that she provides, and I am sure that she has become fitter too! Why not try a few more runs together, dogs quickly get the idea of what is expected of them!

I have a border collie and we walk and walk and walk and walk....He would go on forever. Running has added a new dimension. We run in a very remote spot so the dog is off the lead and enjoys looking for rabbits, hares , squirrels and deer and I have the added security of a dog that looks like he might protect me (even if he probably wouldn't!). Lots of people have special dog harnesses and some run canicross. It's great to run with your very best friend :)

I think canicross could be a good post 5k option.....will look into that, thank you!

I used to run on lead with my shepherd x before he passed away this year. He was great at intervals, not so great at consistent running. So some of my runs were solo, others I enjoyed intervals with him. If it was in the middle of a running interval and he wanted to stop I'd give him a 'let's go' and he'd get excited and run again. Dogs are also great for helping you up hills. Happy running together.

Great idea for a special command...don't know why I didn't think of that before! Will definitely give it another go....thank you!

I have tried to run with my dogs off the lead one tries to trip me up as she is heeling but too close and the other one spends the whole time barking and jumping at me because he thinks I’ve gone mad because I’m running 😂

I’ve done the whole program and graduated a week ago running with my dogs - the 2 younger ones come every time , the older one occasionally. It will depend on the dog but mine hunt (pointers) while watching me,

I’m ready for my 3rd post graduation run today with them today I love the company and they enjoy it too 😊

Congratulations on doing the whole programme with them! Sounds like they are off the lead? Mine can never be off lead as her wandering instinct is too strong but perhaps she'll get used to the running .....well, I was running but she was more or less just lolloping along beside me 😂

Yup - off lead but I have a Cani cross harness for the 20 month old in case I run at night as although she is a really good girl she is still a pup and if she is hunting she might lose me in the dark 😊

I used to take my dog at the beginning of the program. But unfortunately it is so much nicer running without her . Like you , I had to keep stopping : for sniffing , picking up poo etc.
