Somehow managed the run today, quite chuffed but now can not comprehend how the next leap is 20 minutes without recovery walk... sounds bonkers, how do I manage that?!
Week 5 run 2: Somehow managed the run today... - Couch to 5K
Week 5 run 2
Im due to do it tomorrow. I think it will be fine. If I listen to my mind it says woah, but if I listen to my body it says I could have kept running for longer than 8 minutes yesterday. We will manage it. Everybody else has, and they all thought it looked a bit if a leap too. My daughter managed it last week.
Many people say that about this particular run. Your body is all ready for it - the brisk walking and running in combination, that you have already done, are a similar length of time and if you go very slow and relaxed you will be absolutely fine.
This is more of a challenge for your brain and confidence than for your legs. Just make your brain go along with your legs -they can do it! 😀
Let us know how you get on so we can cheer for you!
You will it’s mind over matter enjoy because you will l promise 👍🏃♀️
Take it nice and steady, start of at snails pace and then slow it down.
Every run you've done so far has increased your strength and stamina getting you ready for this run (which in turn prepares you for wk6) and you know thousands of runners have got to where you are and asked the same question and then gone on to run it.
Slow and steady, sustainable pace!
You can do it, trust me 🎻. I was so the same 2 weeks ago and honestly it’s amazing how you can and will do it, no problem. Just you wait, great feeling after 👍🏼
one foot carefully paced in front of the other at your happy pace - you've been working up to it, so honestly you'll be fine...
and if you're chuffed now you'll be even chaffier after that one.
Happy running
Because it is just another run that you are ready for... slow and steady and you will do it
You are ready... all you have to do is believe it You will be fine
Take it slow. Believe in the programme. Believe in yourself. And you will feel amazing when you finish it. And you will finish it.
You are all so kind, thanks for the encouragement. I will keep you posted.
I think the amount of preparation you do before just really sets you up for it. I thought it seemed a lot but when it came to it I was absolutely fine. Makes you really chuffed with yourself! Enjoy.
Just don't focus on the time. Get into a nice rhythm, and as has been said take it slow and steady. Enjoy the view and the feeling of complete freedom. And once again, don't focus on the time!
A lot better than you would imagine! Trust the program - you will get there - I promise!
I’m at exactly the same stage, and feeling exactly the same worries. But reassured by everybody’s positive comments on here. I’m sure we’ll do it.
W5R3, the run we all freaked out about! I did it on Tuesday.... it's OK! Watch your pace, slow down if you get tired but keep going - you can and will do it I promise. And you'll smile at the end of it (I did and I'm a miserable git). Have faith in your ability, you've got this far by believing in yourself - it's just a series of 4 five minute runs and you know you've got those licked.
I have just got in from doing this run and you can do it! Slow and steady 👍
Well done, you just ran and walked briskly for 21 minutes between warm up and cool down..........next run is just 20 minutes.
This is where you have to develop the self belief that is essential to every runner along with total faith in the plan that has got you this far and has transformed countless thousands into runners before you.
Start positive and slow.........and stay that way.
Trust me. 99% of us felt the same. You will do it. xx
Slowly is the way forward. I felt like you about it having never run before and thinking 8 mins straight was amazing (it is) however keep telling yourself you can do it and you will. I like to mentally congratulate myself a lot at the half way point - I drag it out for as long as possible which carries me through the 2nd half a bit Good luck.
you will. believe!
You can do it. And when you’ve done it you will be filled with a new-found faith in your body and mind. Think positively and you will achieve it. Good luck!
Hi I thought the same and was prepared to have to repeat it a couple of times but I did it yesterday first time! Just pace yourself and keep it nice and steady. If you’re struggling just slow it right down (but don’t stop unless you really need to). The app checks in with you every 5 minutes and the time passes very quickly. Good luck 👍.
We all wonder that. I know I did. But believe me it's not that big a deal (though I thought it was at the time).
Think of it this way: On the run you just did it was 21 minutes from start running to end running, 8+5+8. On run 3 wk 5 it's only 20 mins.
I think you'll have a great chance of cracking it, because so many of us had similar fears but still managed it.
