Only managed 22mins today. 1st time I haven't completed the set time. Lungs busting and legs wobbly. Did R1 on Monday and managed to finish (just!) so am feeling deflated. May have come to my limit I feel. High congratulations to those of you who have completed this week!!

May I first start by suggesting that perhaps you need to slow it down. If your lungs were busting after 22minutes of running then you are going at it too fast.

Usually at the beginning of a run we need to take on extra oxygen, and have an increased heart rate as the body adjusts to demand being suddenly placed on it. However, this normally settles down after a few minutes, and our heart rate settles along with our breathing into a slower rhythm.

If you are still puffing away after all this time, you need to slow down. At this point your body is training. Stamina and endurance is built by going out for slow and comfortable runs.

Try again, but this time think of it as and easy jog.

Hey Lynda, please don't stress. We've all been there. I know I certainly have.

It seems to be the case that certain runs are much harder than others, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for that. You already know that you can do the run as IIRC it's the same as W6R3, and obviously W7R1, so with that in mind, I would give it another shot, either by repeating the run, or given that it's the same as the other 2 runs you've already done, just move on to W7R3.

It could be as simple as you're going a little too fast. If you're pushing the limit of your fitness, it doesn't take much, maybe just being a little tired or something, to make you struggle. Seriously - don't worry about going slower if it gets you through the run. There were times when I really had to slow down to practically walking pace, but that's the beauty, it doesn't matter. It's about doing 30 minutes of running-like activity 3 times, speed doesn't come into it to graduate.

Please trust me, if you've made it half way through week 7, you're doing great, and the extra few minutes needed to complete C25K are well within your grasp. Take it nice and steady, you'll be fine!

All the best!

Neil

Hi,

I completed Wk7R2 this morning but the secret is slow and steady. As mentioned by Whatsapp if your lungs are bursting after following the program then you are probably going too fast or maybe coming down with a bug. We all have bad days but any run is better than none. Just take another rest day and give it another go. It will happen :)

And see you at the graduation!!! I'm targetting to complete before Xmas and thinking it might actually happen.

WhatsApp is right. If you can't breathe easily then slow down.

You have reached your limit of running that duration at that pace, maybe. Each run conditions your body, so the next one will be easier, especially if you slow down.

You know you can do it, so no need to feel defeated.

Every run is training for the next one, so take the positives, learn from the process, have a rest day, or two if you need it with the longer runs, and have another go with calm determination and positivity.

Thanks everyone for your really kind and supportive comments! I'm not sure I can slow down much as I'm only running at 8m a km pace - but will definitely persevere and post on Sat am after my next one.

You will be amazed at how slow you can go if you try....i sometimes think my heart has stopped!!
