Oh dear, whats gone wrong...

Week 5 Run 1, I'm looking forward to it, did my stretches, did my briskish 5 minutes warm up, ran 5, walked 3,ran 5. But then just as Jo Whiley was telling me how good I am and that I could have another 3 minute walk I got what I first thought was cramp but it quickly got more painful, it wouldn't walk off or stretch off so I had to painfully make my way home. The pain is in my lower calf just above the Achilles tendon, ive had it on ice and I am resting it but unfortunately I have a Birthday party hog roast to provide later so do need to be on my feet occasionally. Any thoughts on what it might be and how much rest I need to give it would be much appreciated.

Hopefully it's a niggle! Ice is fantastic so ice it when you can. GEt the freezer stocked. I use margarine tubs, plastic bowls etc etc. anything to hold water. Ice cube tray natch! You might need an Ibufren or Neurofen later, once you've got the chance to rest your calf

Have a day, or two off and see how it feels. If it gets worse seek help. It probably won't and you can dismiss it as a niggle. Fingers crossed!

Sounds like a calf strain. Do as Dr wobble advised.

Was your pre run stretching dynamic or static?

Static stretching is not advisable on cold muscles and should be kept for post run.

Hope you recover soon, but don't rush it.

Listen to the wobble! If it does not ease,,, get it checked out!
