Anyone else the same?

Hi all,

I’ve recently completed c25k (have never been a keen runner in my life) and boy it feels good, but.......does anyone else struggle to run in the mornings rather than in the evening? It’s actually started to put me off going in the morning after the school run ☹️

I have my breakfast about an hour beforehand, I make sure I’ve drank some water, taken my inhaler (only mild asthmatic) but I still find I have less energy than in the evening and is not as enjoyable? Weird or normal do you think?!

I feel the same about morning runs, although I like doing park runs which start at 9 am, much prefer evening runs.

I do a mixture of morning and evening runs fitting around work etc. I had a lovely run on Monday morning as it was sunny so I just kept going. Off for a night run tonight which won't be for as long but that is only as I run while my youngest does Tae Kwon Do - I take him in the car then I have an hour to myself for a run (past the million ££ properties who have garage blocks larger than my house). It doesn't seem to make much difference to me but we are all unique so it is best to go with what suits you and you enjoy.

We're all different, some are early birds, some are night owls. I'm the latter and do all my midweek runs in the evenings. Weekends I run mornings but not until at least 10am after a leisurely start to the day.

It's not weird at all. Just run when it best suits you.

Not weird, definitely normal. We all have our own preferences....I prefer morning runs. I find if I have to put my run off until later in the day, my excuses to not run get louder and easier to listen to (and sometimes life just gets in the way).

I do all my runs in the morning before work usually about 730am and just feel fantastic all day. I like to know I have done my run or exercise at the gym and have the rest of the day afterwards for either work or going out. I know, like Saskalliecat said, if I put it off for later in the day/evening the excuses would come out and I either wouldnt do it or it would be half hearted. I think it all comes down to personal preference and how different our lives are xx

Yeah, I think it's just personal when you are most active. I'd love to be able to run in the mornings generally and that's what I've been doing while I'm travelling but once back in the Iron Grip of school/work/daycare it will be strictly afternoons. The kids have to be out the door at 7:15 and my bus to work goes at 7:40, and I can't leave my husband to do all the child wrangling. And I'm not willing to get up at 5am. But I can leave him to make dinner twice during the work week while I'm out after work shaking off the tension of the day...

I run earl..but you must do what feels right for you... it is your journey and you need to run when it feels right! Can you do an afternoon or evening run?

I can run one morning in the week and an evening and just really notice a difference between the two. Just wondered how everyone else felt, I’m actually not sure if it’s just where I feel more confident in the evening as it’s dark?!

Hi, I tend to run first thing and have breakfast after, doing it that way suits me, but you should do what works for you

Thank you everyone for your replies x

Morning runs work for me and set me up for the day, while the evening would exacerbate my lousy sleeping habit, with far too many invigorating chemicals coursing around my body.

I prefer early mornings (6am) as it gets it done. Less likely to have excuses at that time! As winter draws in with possibly icy conditions, I will probably have to run after work.

I'm the same! Decided first thing isn't for me! So far I seem to run best at lunch time when I'm hungry!?! If I can only do the morning. I have a cup of tea and run but I don't enjoy it the same!

I always run in the evening after having tea and I find this is the best for me. Everyone has their own routine that works for them I guess x
