Went out after work yesterday to complete this run and wasn’t sure I would be able to do it. After the third 5 minute run I felt like I could have gone on which really surprised me! Looking forward to running 8 mins but not 20! I feel like that is a big jump!
W5r1 completed! : Went out after work yesterday... - Couch to 5K
W5r1 completed!
That looks like a lovely setting for a post-work de-stressing run.
Well done for getting as far as you have, you're doing great, and having doubts about run 3 is something I think every single person doing the programme has felt. But don't worry. I had serious doubts before W5R3, but I was so glad I decided to trust this plan, as the run itself was fine.
How? Why was it fine?
Well if you think about it, your next run gives you 16 minutes of running. You may be thinking it's only 8 minutes at a time, and that's true, but if you combine it with the 5 minute brisk walk in the middle, that's 21 minutes of brisk exercise. Run 3 is actually only 20 minutes. Granted it's all running, but it's totally do-able.
And remember the golden rule of C25K, and this forum of course, slow and steady! In other words, don't go off like a bat out of hell, because you'll tire yourself out way too quickly. What I've learned over teh course of this plan, is that if a run is feeling like it's too much, slow down until it feels manageable. This is about getting you to the point of doing 30 minutes of brisk activity, not about speed or distance, that will come with time after you graduate. Oh - and when starting the run, find your comfortable pace, then dial it down a notch or two, that really worked for me. Much better to complete a run a bit slower, than not complete it.
All the best for the remaining 2 runs of week 5, you'll do great!
