Well despite having a day off today I decided that to fit everything in that I wanted to do I would need to get out for my run nice and early today.
I got up at 6 and was out by 6:30 - usual run is later and brighter - more daylighty!! Fortunately I had a head torch which was going to be needed for the unlit canal towpath.
Following my last run I knew that I needed to extend my route as I hate running over my own steps. I planned a modified route on the computer which would extend the distance from 4km to 5km (including walks).
Setting off I was a tad worried because I knew I had to be home by a certain time and did not want to push myself hard and f*** to achieve the distance. (that’s fail!). Slow and steady down the road towards the canal and then head torch on. Whilst I was glad for the torch it did not give as much illumination as I would have liked and therefore running was a little bit of a trust and hope. I had joined the canal at a different place to usual and I did not know it well. More uneven than the bit I usually tread!
When I joined the section I usually run I was feeling pleased a) that I was back on known path b) I was not cream crackered! The incline that I did so well at in r2 came almost 1km later than usual but still managed a reasonable run up it.
When Sarah M announced time was up I was feeling good - legs were fine and for once I felt like keeping going. So just like the old advert for cream cakes which were naughty but nice - I decided that whilst not sticking to the programme would be naughty it would also be nice to see if I could keep running to 30m .. having got to 30 .. I then kept going until I got to 4.5k (inc warm up). At this point I reached my usual cool down point and so I started my walk.
The programme is great and now into the home stretch. Never thought I would be doing this 2 months ago! Great run today lovely feeling at the end to be running for fun rather than just trying to finish. Looking forward to the clock change and back to daylight hours. Keep running everyone and trusting in yourselves.
