I’m a 36DD and I love M&S ultra high impact range - got lots and used them for years and they work - important to make sure you pull ‘em in and up😂
Bravissimo do sports bras. Sadly I have gained a lot of weight since buying mine but when it fitted it was great. Now I feel like my ribs are going to snap! So I will be going back for a new one.
I’d suggest going and getting properly measured for one. I’m an E cup and ordered one online in my normal size - it fits fine in the cup but feels too tight round the ribs. Got a normal bra fitted last weekend and mentioned it to the woman. She advised that they often have to go up a number size in this type of bra because of how tight they are. Obv, we want everything held and not jiggling all over the place but we don’t want to be uncomfortable either.
Maybe try a Debenhams or a bravissimo and see if she can try them on first. X
I got measured in John Lewis - and was surprised at the size they recommended me! But it was right, and there is no moving for my puppies in my lovely sports bra. I got the Shock Absorber brand. It certainly does the job!
I could write an essay on this. I will first point you at the inimitable jancanrun's seminal works on the subject... search the forum for the a to e cup challenge and the subsequent brafta awards.
I am on the larger side so I have formed many opnions on the subject. First and most importantly if she can try some on that's ideal. Secondly consider the variations in design - you do want them to be held firm; there are many options for this and of course it depends on your shape and size what is best. Thirdly consider, as the A to E cup challenge did, what other factors are important - could the wearer easily put on and take it off for instance. Front loaders are tempting for ease but we have had stories of escape!
Finally my actual suggestions - the runaway winner when this gets mentioned is usually the Shock Absorber brand. I have the "4490" (the "Ultimate Run" looks like it won't fit me). I like that for secure boob management - at the larger cup sizes there's a 'double fastening' instead of a racer-back-over-the-head style. The sizing runs small. I also like something like a particular model of Freya which has both a wide band so it stays put and also covers up quite high on the chest, starting above my boobs if you get what I mean - in comparison, something like the Panache sports bras still allow me to bounce a bit at the top. Panache though usually also gets top marks - they are super comfy and quite flattering too.
Shock Absorber gets my vote for "secure boob management". You need fairly good chest coverage to stop any wobblage. Strained boob muscles HURTS.
Thanks for the link to the other post, had me in tears laughing 🤗 as well as your own wise words of course!
Hiya! I’m well endowed too (black eye runner 36H/HH )and all I have found that really works is two sports bras. Bravissimo is amazing for bras, (I wouldn’t trust anyone else to measure me (M&S got my measurement so wrong it was horrible)). Bravissimo have a good selection of sports bras, but they weren’t quite right. The lady suggested getting a front zipping racer back sports bra (without a wire) from M&S to put over the sports bra I got. It seems to be the perfect combination. The ‘proper’ sports bra supports everything, then the soft M&S sports bra locks everything down (add it has a cute pattern and is quite high cut) . No more crossed arm running for me!
It sucks having to buy two bras, but it has made such a difference to me. Just make sure she is measured correctly, as that is one of the biggest barriers to good support. Feel free to privately message me as I could bang on about bras for ages! Best of luck x
Yes - I think if I was any bigger I'd do this. Also check out the booband which I think might hold things down in the way I'm imagining helps. I haven't dared yet as I'm not sure about the sweaty material under armpit potential.
Have to admit when I did my first C25K runs, I wore two regular bras, one which was slightly too small on top of a high coverage one. It was terrible but it sort of worked!
Thank you ladies, I have passed it all on to my girl, let's see if that was really what was stopping her 😎
I’m a 32GG and wouldn’t be without my Freya Epic sports bra. I find the Shock Absorbers come up very small. I used to
Swear by them in my former life as a skinny person but I’ve, er, ‘outgrown’ them. I paid best part of £40 for mine but loads of places have them for £20 in their sales now.
Shock Absorbers. I am a 36H or 34HH. Nothing else works at that size.
Elomi EL8041 goes up to large band sizes and very big cups it's wired and double lined has a J hook also if like to bring straps together
Glamorise do the likes of 1166 which is deep banded non wired and had a 2nd layer over the front which hooks up on either side so can adjust amount of firmness so on top hook very firm.
Panache Sculptress have just brough out a new sports bra that covers the bigger band sizes.
There is a sports bra for all!
