Week 4 done and dusted! Shame technology sucks at times πŸ˜‘

After a very satisfying attack at the programme, my Stepdad and I felt like pushing it a little and tacked a couple of one minute runs onto the warm down walk which was longer than usual due to being further away from home than usual. Felt super proud of myself, found the actual programme so much more comfortable than Runs 1 and 2. Sat down to revel in my smugness, only to discover that Map My Run hadn't bloody logged it from the start! 😀 Ultra annoying! Still, I've got Week 4 in the bag, and am now looking forwardto pushing myself a little bit harder again on Week 5, Wednesday here I come! πŸ˜€

Well done.

There is no need to push yourself. If you are new to running, then all your runs should be at an easy pace, simply because your body builds running ability better at that speed than running fast, while keeping injury risk to a still developing body minimal. Read this runningarea.com/2017/10/bas...

I made the rookie runner's basic error of thinking that by pushing myself I would end up a faster runner, so I ran the whole of C25K as fast as I could. This obviously meant I was capable of running faster at graduation than if I had done the prescribed gentle jog.

I was very proud of my first parkrun PB and over the next couple of years I managed to knock a whole two minutes off that time. Had I done it gently, I could have had many more PB smashing runs, over the same period. I probably would have ended up in approximately the same performance place, but would have not been risking injury to the same degree, had I taken the whole thing in the recommended slow and steady manner.

Injury sucks.

Thank you for the advice, I am a complete newbie to running! I wasn't pushing myself to run faster, I jog at a comfortable pace, and I know that I couldn't manage to go any faster, when I say about pushing myself, I meant the couple of extra jogs I added when the programme had finished. I am really loving the app, Jo Whiley is my new best buddy! I don't want to risk injury, do you think I shouldn't add the extra bits on, even if I feel ok doing them?

😊

I think we all add on a bit here or there and so long as they are gentle and not too long, you will probably be fine........says the man who ignored the advice to run at a gentle jog.
