Injury and restart

Hi all! I posted last week about my partner finishing week 2 but having knee bruising. He took it easy and rested it until the bruising went and we went back out on the plan yesterday. I continued in his absence so I haven’t lost any stamina and I’m now finished week 3. He didn’t run for just under a week and tried to pick up where he left off and really struggled! It’s amazing how quickly you lose your running fitness eh? I said maybe he needs to start again from week 1 but I don’t want him to feel defeated cause he was getting right into it! His last run before injury was week 2 run 2... what do you suggest? Maybe week 1 run 3? Thanks!

You don't really lose fitness that fast.. but it is early on in the programme.. maybe that us why he struggled so much....( unless he tried too hard)...that is why the exercise on rest days, walking or swimming yoga, Pilates or cycling etc..is so important from the beginning.

We do not just run.. we have to build up stamina and core strength for the longer runs to come :)

I spent, as many of us on the journey, unfortunately do sometimes, quite a while on the IC....but all the other exercises and exercise you are able to do even whilst on the IC helps.. :) When I headed out again... starting slow and steady as ever, it was fine :)

He just needs to head out again and take it super slow... and then slow down some more... and make user both of you are doing those rest day exercises too:)

Thank you Oldfloss! I think he perhaps went too quick as he was trying to keep up with me! (Never has anyone has to keep up with me haha). He walks 1.5 miles to and from work 5 days a week and has quite a physical job with lots of lifting so he’s definitely exercising on rest days. I’ll just advise slow and steady and get him to do another couple of week 2 runs just to get more comfortable before moving to week 3

He just admitted to me that when I ran past him it made him want to catch up with me! So I was right! Men!
