So my 10 year old (gymnast) son wanted to come with me today. Week 5 run 1. He was very keen to get going in the warm up and I held him back then bing start running. He went off, realised he had to slow down, yes and more and more, still slower....yes then walk at the speed I was running!! Still he didn't complain just played with his ipod and chatted away and sang and ran backwards, and skipped and at the end of each run patted me and said "well done mum not far to go now". mmm I wonder if he will want to come again?

Ahh bless him! Did try taking my 12 year old one day but he runs in a really weird way (he's dyspraxic) and I was more focused on worrying about him than running. It sounds like you have an enthusiastic coach there!

My son wants to come with me (he's 9) and I was trying to find a suitable App/podcast to keep him In check....someone said Zombie Runner.....might be with trying to find him something to listen to that isn't Laura. My plan till he catches up with me (I'm on wk4) was to do his first few on my days off so I build stamina and he feels like he has done it with me, but then I get my proper run on my own. Good on him though and keep encouraging him!

Awww that's so sweet....a pat on the back for mum; made me smile! :) He was out in the fresh air though so can't be bad and yes the zombie app would be just the thing for him I would have thought!

Your blog amused me as my running pace is also about the same speed as walking (I am also w5r1)!

Lol, yes, had to start going out on my own after Week 1 Run 1 because my hubby was brisk walking faster than I was light jogging! I know he wanted to come with me for moral support but it was just mortifying! Now I'm onto to the longer runs (Week 7) I'm hoping my 7-year-old daughter will come with me although I know I'll be struggling to keep up with her! x He's obviously proud of being out with you and being your coach along with Laura, bless him :-)

Glad to hear other people are that slow too. I run on a path around a lake so only dog owners or other exercise sufferers are there. This week a whole crowd of conservation volunteers were getting their work orders while standing together on the path. I kept saying to myself "you can do this just run past them and keep going" thinking they would mock me. But no, the main man moved them all out of the way and a few gave me "we feel your pain keep going" looks. Then I realized that I always would give people that ran past me (especially if obviously struggling) a good on you mate look or an encouraging smile. I love this forum as it made me realize that others are just like me and mutual encouragement is so needed.

Your blog did make me laugh! Let's have a big cheer for us slowies! We may be slow, but we're putting in the effort, and getting fitter (and maybe a teeny bit faster, a teeny bit at a time).

I think you're right about the looks from other people - I haven't had any unhelpful comments, but lots of the 'good on you' sort. You never know, we might be inspiring others to get off the couch too. :)

(And I was *overtaken* by a dog walker on my graduation run... But it just made me laugh!)
