Thougts on Beginning WK 7

Well had to settle for late afternoon autumnal run rather than early morning like I originally planned - but certainly enjoyed this unseasonal sunshine.

And who'd have thought 7 weeks ago I'd be happily setting off on a 25 minute run. Felt realky good by the end but struggled to settle to a pace in the first 5 or 10 minutes - think this might have been down to some unfamiliar tracks on the podcast but might equally have been down to me needing to out run the gremlins.

Thinking of trying to run listening to radio podcasts (I'm always trying to catch up on stuff I've missed) during these longer runs - but not sure how I'll feel setting of without Laura. Any advice?

Oh and have definitely decided I'm an outdoor enjoying the scenery, grass under my feet, don't even mind the odd incline , puddle or inquisitive dog sort of runner.

And get me - calling myself a runner! 😀🏃

I stuck with Laura and hung on to her every word 😃 Still do as I run the follow-on podcasts regularly 🙂

I love Laura and thought I couldn't run without her. But something went wrong yesterday with my phone on W7R3 and I lost her almost immediately. So I just put some random music on that I like, and wierdly had by far my best run so far. I don't think it was due to the lack of Laura, but with 25 mins non stop we don't need her so much, and maybe music that I really liked, or just the change, spurred me on? Having said that, i'll be putting her back on tomorrow for W8R1. Not ready to totally lose her just yet!

I didn't realise she had done follow on podcasts, will definitely look out for those.

And well done, you ARE a runner!!

Thanks!

Yes think I'm not totally ready to go it alone yet - but thought as Laura's seen me through R1of the week I might try to develop a bit of independence in preparation for (I'm whispering this) following graduation....

Struggling for the first five or ten minutes is pretty much par for the course for all runners......the Toxic Ten as it is sometimes called.

In this period your body hasn't worked out the demands being required of it, regarding oxygen supply to different parts of your body and generally getting warmed up, so it is always the toughest part of any run, even for experienced runners. The simplest way to deal with it is to start off gently and build pace as everything settles down, after five to ten minutes. Those first few minutes are rarely the fastest of a long run.

Well done.

What a difference just a few weeks can make.

I stuck with Laura too :)

Take everything in around you.. write about it afterwards.. relax into the runs....slow and steady..let the legs carry you...all on their own..find your happy pace:)

Such a difference - feel like I've rebooted my outlook on life😊

Glad to hear the ten minute thing isn't peculiar to me ... thought it might just be when I'm doubting I can do it. Equally there's a moment some time just after half way when I feel like I could run forever.

I do a lot of walking and I alway think I've settled into a walk at about 3 miles - your legs and feet just feel good. I guess it's the same kind of thing and I should be grateful with running that it only take 10 minutes!

I never used Laura at all through the C25K.

From what I have seen it’s a bit of a Marmite love or loathe thing.

I just had my own Spotify playlist.

I’m looking at doing some podcasts this coming week just to mix it up a bit

Worried that in picking my own music the pace might be all wrong. The podcast music is not great - but upto now has seemed to 'fit'.

Some of us follow each other’s Spotify play lists.

Mine is C25K RUN.

JanCanRun has some great stuff as well.

Good to listen to ‘not your own’ music now and then

Who’s Laura? I think I’ve missed that bit!! I download Sara cox sounds of the 80s from radio 2 (giving my age away 😮 ) it’s 2 hours long so lasts me for all 3 runs. A nice combination of chat and upbeat music. I have used playlists in the past but got a bit bored hearing the same tracks all of the time!
