Running and loosing weight
Okay we are all different heights and weights and metabolisms, ages, starting fitness levels, food intake etc etc... so it's hard to be specific for you.
In the early weeks you certainly won't lose weight that isn't what the plan is about, but what I can tell you I have observed on here is that towards the end of the plan a lot of runners report having either lost weight, lost inches or indeed both. Coupled with a weight management focussed eating plan some people have reported wonderful weight loss results.
Do the programme to get fitter and enjoy that aspect of it, but don't worry too much early on about weight loss.
For me I haven't lost weight per se, but I have lost some wobble!
I wish you good luck if you choose to start, certainly you'll get loads of support on here.
Thanks Jancanrun
Loosing wobbly bits sounds BRILL but getting fit is important. I certainly can feel the difference. Just starting week

This is a running programme not a weight loss programme. You would need to be motivated to get fitter and learn to run for this programme.
To loose weight you would need to be motivated to do so and follow a healthy eating regime.
Two different things.
But if you are motivated to run, welcome to join us.
So that there is no confusion, C25k aims to get you running for 30 mins, it isnt aiming for anything more than that. It doesnt mean you cant aim for more yourself though if you wish to.
I am one who has lost inches (but probably not pounds) but have been dieting anyway (so have lost pounds through that). What I have noticed though is that those extra wobbly bits are definitely less wobbly. I feel more toned and generally have a better shape. As others have said this is not a weight loss programme but I like to think of the running as encouraging the weight to come off in the right places! It can only help keep it off too.
I know its not a weight loss programme my friend only just told me that although she may be running 10k she is still eating all the junk food.
I looked along the lines of i am eating healthy trying to loose weight they always say any diet you need to exercise. I think running and walking all round town is quite a bit of exercise considering the furthest i used to walk was house to car and round supermarketso hopefully i am doing everything ok oooh a 6 pack would be nice 🤣
If she is eating junk food and running 10k then she is not fueling her body correctly. If you are asking more of your body it is important that you put in the right food.
You will find that your legs, bum and hips become more toned with running, but running does not strengthen your upper body, so some resistance exercises for your upper body will help
As a running programme its great. I'm happy to lose weight but I've noticed its not coming off as quickly as when I was actually at Slimming World. For me, as I've just completed week 5 run 2 this is more about fitness and no more weight gain. I'm fitter, more alert, and running for longer than I could have imagined and I'm only half way through the programme.
I have been watching what I eat since May, I've completed the C25K in that time frame and have lost upwards of 3 - 3.5 stone, I've lost over 4 inches on my waist, plus my stomach isn't as large as it was.
Technically, if you are running with a calorie defficit then you should loose weight, there may be reasons why you won't/don't, slow metabolism, etc.
I use MyFitnessPal to monitor what I eat, my Garmin feeds through the calories burned through normal bodily functions and through activity, walking, running, etc; my daily aim is around 1800 cals per day but I normally hit around 13/1400.
On run days I don't consume more, I just burn more.
You may or may not lose a bit of weight doing c25k, best go with the latter, but you'll probably feel a bit fitter and a tad more toned, losing weight comes more when running continuously 3 times a week, oh, and a controlled diet!😊
If you are in calorie deficit you will lose weight. If you are not losing weight you are not in calorie deficit.
There are occasional very short term blips due to water gain etc but over any period of time you will lose weight if you are in deficit.
As I am sure that you know, to lose weight you need to have a caloric deficit. Running may help you to burn a few extra calories but frankly to lose weight purely by running you need to run long distances.
I have lost inches around my body. I have also lost almost 1 stone in weight.
But most of all I feel more healthy and confident. I can go out the door now and effortlessly run 5k. What’s not to love about that.
As Millsie-J says.. this is not a weight loss programme.. I actually put weight on, which was good for me.
Some folks do lose weight and some don't...the only way really ,is to eat healthily or less.. and move a lot more
I wish I'd done some waist/hip/thigh measurements at the beginning but didn't in case I was disappointed! My scales still read the same but my bottom is disappearing and my clothes fit more comfortably. But most of all I feel great and so much fitter. Got up the 4 flights of stairs at work this week without puffing for the first time.
Iv lost nearly a stone but I have been eating healthy and doing others cardio exercises x
Weight loss is all about eating fewer calories and burning more. A pound in weight = approx 3000 calories so to lose that pound you need to burn 3000 calories more than you eat.
Today I completed week5 run3, I ran (jogged in my case) for 20 mins and according to my Fitbit I burned 224 calories! That means to lose a pound I would need to do the same run more than 13 times a week!
Weight loss is about a whole change in lifestyle and exercise is only part of it. I say this as someone who has lost 4stones since the beginning of the year just by eating better and moving more and monitoring the whole deal through my Fitbit, the best bit of kit I ever bought.
According to my BMI I am still overweight but having gone from a size 18-20 to a size 12-14 I feel fantastic which is why I wanted a new challenge to improve my fitness. It’s not about the weight anymore it’s about keeping healthy for myself and my family.
C25k is a brilliant plan, it works, despite the weight loss, I couldn’t even run after my grandchildren (yes i’m no spring chicken) before I started the programme and this morning I ran for 20 mins. Bring on week 6!
Good luck with the weight loss and the running too if you decide to go for it.
I am a convert!
