Hit a wall today, really struggled with the full 25 minutes. Got to 15 and wanted to stop, in the end did 24. Now cross with myself for not carrying on!

Did you run too fast? I nearly came unstuck on W7 R2 by trying to up the pace! Slow & steady really helps. See Rignold's post on Endurance from earlier today. Good luck & stick with it 😉

Sounds as though you were running to fast and ran out of steam before you ran out of time.

I was struggling then read a post about Sustainable Pace, so running at a pace you can sustain for the time period you are running, next time out I slowed it down a little and guess what, I ran for the full time required no problem

Sustainable Pace -- it's the future lol

Its not always down to pace. I've stopped on runs before, not going faster than on any other day. And, like you, I regretted it later. You have good days and bad days. One of the things we learn is when to dig deep. Put this down to experience, at the time you felt you couldn't go on - next time you'll be more prepared.

Well done. You did it in my book. 1 minute short is nothing. Take it nice and easy next time and get lost in the run. You can add 1 minute onto run 3. Then you will have done it. Some days are harder than others.

Ask yourself Why did you stop?

If you are exhausted you are going too fast.

if you are in pain, you did the right thing.

If you just think that it is about time to stop, because your body doesn't normally do this sort of thing, then you have to tell that other half of your brain to butt out while you get this thing finished.

The last few weeks can be tough, but if you don't clock watch and find something else to occupy your mind, then all of a sudden you will find you have done it.

Distraction is your friend at this very mental stage.

Slow and steady, neddy! If you feel the need to stop just slow it down and find your pace again..you can do it! Happy running 🏃🏃🤗

Thank you all, I think I probably went out too fast, will definitely try slow and steady next time. Thank you grannyO have read the post on endurance.

Okay... slow down... then slow more. Enjoy the longer runs.. let your legs take you on.. relax breath and look around.. see what is happening out there.. forget time..and as IannodaTruffe says.. distraction.

Name the trees and shrubs.. give daft names to folk you see, make up rhymes and silly running songs.. and before you know it.. you will be at the podium!

Yes Oldfloss and IannodaTruffe are right- I find if I start to struggle to count backwards from 100. It’s amazing how it works. Lol and I REALLY have to concentrate- who knew that when running it’s harder to count backwards 😂😂😂

For what it's worth, you carried on from 15 minutes and lasted to 24. Well done, I really don't think I could have done that. And a minute here and there is next to nothing. I'm sure all the advice about pace and distraction is bang on, but don't be downhearted.

Thank you, I've looked back at my split times for the same distance a week ago and went way faster today think I need to learn to pace myself. In the scheme of things 1 minute is not that important.

24 minutes is amazing 🙌🏻 Ok so you'll have to do this run again but next time I am thinking you will do it for sure. Don't be down on yourself. Good luck for your next run 🏃

I’ve done the 25min 6 times so far-why? Because each time I slowed to what I call a fast walk-I don’t care though because I will crack it -& so will you-we’ve come a long way and it’s not gunna beat us👍🏼👟

Distraction from clock watching definitely helps. If you like to listen to music while you run maybe vary your playlist. I find myself making up new lyrics or thinking about all the things I pass on my run that I'm going to tell this wonderful running family about. Sometimes I'm so absorbed by this I don't realise quite how far I've run.

If your timing yourself out might be worth setting an alarm on your phone so that you can run without having to look at how much more time is left to run.

Good luck. I'm sure the next one will be much better. 🤓

This was the stage when I actually started looking at my stats, not to go faster, but in actual fact to go much slower. I found as my fitness and enthusiasm were growing, I was out if the blocks a little bit too quickly. And like the dodgy battery in the Duracell bunny ad, I came to a halt.

So that may ring a bell, if so the answer is just to temper it a bit... and the run you did do put more stamina and kms in the bank, so it was very valuable in its own right...

Well I took on the advice you all gave me. Took it slow and steady, counted backwards to distract and yes week 7 run 2 completed plus an additional minute and a half! Thanks everyone. Now looking forward to run 3 of this week. 😀
