W9R2 and couldn’t finish the run

So Tuesday was a glorious day running around the Royal Parks in London in the autumnal sunshine.

I even pushed myself a bit at the end and carried on after MJ delicately bellowed in my ear telling me to walk. I carried on until I got to 4km (33 minutes).

My plan was that at this stage I wanted to do 4km regardless of time over the coming weeks then 4.5 and so on until I consolidated at 5km and then try to bring the time down.

I was supposed to run yesterday morning but these trade shows tend to have lots of evening parties where mint tea and couscous tends not to be on the menu.

Needless to say when I woke up yesterday morning after only a few hours sleep I decided I ‘needed’ an extra rest day.

Last nights journey home was a nightmare with delays and cancellations through Amsterdam meant I eventually landed in Prague and got home to our village and into bed around 2am.

Up at 6am to take Mrs GB to work and then back and into the Minionesque running gear.

And off I went.

The usual 8-10 minutes getting into it and I was on my way.

Up the hill, alongside side the forests, through the field to the next village and then back.

All of it in wind that kept blowing the hood of my running top over my face.

Thankfully I didn’t see anyone today (even when the hood wasn’t in my face) as a 6 foot minion with a hood over his head and flailing his arms whilst yelling ‘AAAAAAGH! Not again!!!!’ would have been quite discerning.

I was nearly on the final stretch with MJ with his 120 decibel ‘whisper’ telling me I was nearly there when, for the first time, I couldn’t finish. I just couldn’t do it.

That’s right....I just kept on running. And running. And even upped the pace. I ran out of road and had to turn back along where I had just come from and just carried on. It felt great. I was just getting a piggyback or was on one of those virtual reality headset things. I was seeing it all move around me but was not aware of my breathing or legs.

And then Endomondo told me I had run 5km !!

I could have carried on but with the voices of people on here firmly chiselled into my mind I didn’t want to push too far.

But I just ran 5km !!!

Sunday will be back to 4km but now that I know I can do 5km I can build up to it a bit quicker and then consolidate at that until I am sub 30 minutes!

No avocado and poached egg for me unfortunately but I may have a celebratory beer this evening.

Woo hoo.

Happy Friday you gorgeous bunch of jofflers.

Believe in yourself and what you can do.

Your body already knows, you just need to tell your mind.

I misunderstood and thought you meant you couldn't finish (i.e. couldn't make it to the end), not you couldn't stop! That's amazing - very well done. You're well and truly hooked!

Well done! Sometimes things just click and you feel epic. 💪🙂🏃✔️

I thought I hated avocado but I based my dislike on some shop bought guacamole. I now find I love the stuff and even eat it in desserts. Choc avocado mousse is fab-u-lous 😋

Okay.. my daughter makes a mean chocolate and avocado cake :) Gluten free too .. wish I liked chocolate :)

Gluten free? Mrs GB has to be gluten free and since she was about 4 years old as opposed to some health fad thing.

Get my email and send me the recipe please

Well done sir. Fantastic. Best wishes to you for your last run and look forward to seeing you on the Podium on Sunday. Excellent result considering all the travelling yesterday. I was travelling too, didn’t get home from Heathrow until after 12:30 this morning. Went to bed at 1am. I was knackered and would not have been able for a run this morning. Planning on doing 7K later.

Cheers,

Damien

Brilliant post and well done on the run. How is the weight loss going?

GingerBohemian profile image

Would be going a lot better if I hadn’t spent 2 weeks in California on business then a week in Toronto with Mrs GB and then last week I was in the UK all week so equally challenging when I am out travelling.

9 weeks ago I was 110kg. Today I am 106kg.

So 4kg /8lb.

I think the weight loss is not about the running. If you still eat pizza every night or drink wine every night it’s not going to work.

I took this challenge on as a total lifestyle change.

I have the MyFitnessPal app as well and had on there what my weight loss goal was and that gives me how many calories I should be having each day in order to achieve that.

So that meant changing my eating habits and lifestyle and everything.

So as well as being fitter and more active it has also made me start eating healthier as well as a by product. (Check out the sugar content in that low salt muesli!!!!!!!)
