Feeling rubbish, but already put off my run yesterday. Will feel guilty and behind if I don't do it today!

Rignold told me- If it's above the neck, run

If it's below the neck- don't run

Running when Congested

If your symptoms are congestion related – runny nose, chest congestion or coughing – you are usually safe to run.

In fact, an easy run, followed by a nice hot shower may help clear your congestion, and give you a few hours of feeling back to normal

Running with the Flu

If you have flu like symptoms, especially achy muscles or a fever, you should not run. Running with a fever is not only dangerous, but will significantly increase the time it will take you to get back to 100%.

You are not going to ruin your fitness by pushing your workout back a day, or even by taking a few days completely off from running. Yes, runners are obsessive creatures, but two or three days off will not negatively impact your fitness.

Thank you for the advice, sounds very sensible. I think I may opt for an indoor treadmill gentle run and see how I get on.

Guilt for not running.......oh, how I have changed :o)

I ran with a cold recently. I left the house with the mindset that if I start to feel really rubbish then I'd just stop and walk home. However, I didn't feel I needed to and amazingly it was my best run in terms of distance covered in the time. I haven't been that fast since despite feeling better, which is a bit annoying! It cleared the stuffiness quite a bit too. Go out and run if you feel like it and don't put any pressure on yourself. Good luck!

I like the idea of listening carefully to your body, not the (where did it come from?) neck up rule - so if I've got a blinding headache from my cold - but its above the neck I should go out and run? - nah, I think i'll take a rest day thank you very much! If you feel like it run, if not don't. Enjoy your running - much better that way :-)
