Not happy wk2 run 3
I don't know why you feel rubbish but I know that I sometimes I feel rubbish after my runs...and sometimes I feel fabulous!
Don't let one run put you off- you will have loads of good runs ahead of you
It is very difficult for us to tell with the amount of information you give us.
We all have bad runs. Sometimes, with a bit of thought, we can see that certain elements are out of place........our frame of mind or physicality......as a consequence of the day/week we have just had or that we are suffering a minor ailment. Other times it seems to be a mystery.
Everything in your life can affect your running and running can affect anything in your life. Don't be put off by one bad run.
Bad runs happen from time to time. Sometimes for no reason you can figure out. Any run is better than no run as it's all building your strength and stamina. But they don't always feel great.
A week ago I had a great run on Thursday. Then I did Park run on Saturday and I knew from the start it wasn't going to be a good one. I struggled all the way and might have given up if I had just been on my own. No idea why such a difference.
The important thing is to keep going. Yesterday's run is gone. Good or bad you can't change it. The run that matters is the next one. You just put week 2 run 3 behind you and look forward to conquering the runs in week 4. You will feel great when you achieve that.
It's only natural that some runs will feel better than others. It is frustrating, but please don't beat yourself up about it and please don't be put off. The next run may have a totally different feel. Sometimes my runs don't go so well because of tiredness, too much booze, not enough water and other similar factors. Sometimes they don't go to plan because I don't have the right stuff (I can't run without my headphone... or can I), wrong shoes, saggy leggings. Sometimes it's the weather.
And sometimes there's no rhyme or reason, a run just doesn't go as well as expected.
Today, my run didn't go so well, and I don't know why, but I find trying to think less about the actual running and think about the scenery, or even what I'm going to say in my post in here helps drive me on. Sometimes I make up alternative lyrics (you may have seen some of my earlier posts) and today I was just blaming all the challenging bits of the run onto a fictional department at the council.
Just remember, you were out there running, not sitting around passing time. So that makes it a good run - i.e. you ran. It may have been a practice run, so you might want to have another go at it if you couldn't complete it, but that doesn't matter. Some of us have repeated whole weeks, or gone back to a previous run to consolidate. The 9 week s of the programme don't have to be nine weeks and if it takes you longer, well whose counting? I got to week 8 and then had to start the programme from the beginning again, but I still managed to graduate and now can run longer distances and even enjoy it. So there really is no rush to get through the programme.
Don't be put off, just have another go at it, and see how many gremlins you can blame for attempting to hamper your progress, and give them a hefty kick up the backside. Let us know how you get on.
You are probably feeling under par.. physically or mentally perhaps... ?
I found week 2 run 3 my hardest run. I have no clue why but it made me feel horrible and I had a really disgruntled attitude going into week 3 which I loved. I found myself smiling like a maniac while running, singing along with my music out loud again rather maniacally, and feeling so comfortable!!!! Didn't think I would feel that way but did. Push on!
My tips-
Slow down your pace to a conserving pace as slow as you can
Keep your chin up and make sure you are breathing in a straight line (no looking at the ground by your feet)
Pick music you genuinely love and want to dance to for listening to on your run. I feel like I'm just dancing in a straight line.
Don't eat before, it makes me so much more sluggish
Push on! Push through the cr*p runs and get out there. It'll get easier.
I'm glad I'm not alone thank you for replying that's made me feel a lot better and more positive .... x
Brilliant I'm delighted it helped. It's coincidental that your bad run was the same as mine.
When skiing there's a saying (and I know it's used in lots of places)
"a bad day on the slopes beats a good day in the office" my take on the bad run is:
"a bad run beats a day with no run" or words to that effect.
Dust your shoes off - take your rest days and attack next week with determination - you can do it!
Love this!
Don't be put off rest day(s) then get out there again and will probably have a great run!!
