Ran my Wk1 Run1 yesterday. Not as hideous as I thought it would be. I had back surgery 8 months ago and wasn't sure about doing C25K. Anyone else in this boat?

I haven't but Mr JCR broke his back and has all sorts of titanium propping it up. He was told categorically by his surgeon that any sport giving constant compression and vibration to the spine was to be avoided, but that is probably at the extremes of surgery and it may not apply to your situation.
I would specifically ask your medic for advice so you don't get into any health troubles. It always says on here that the forum shouldn't replace your relationship with your health adviser or doctor, so a phone call may suffice to put your mind at rest.
Thanks Jancanrun. My surgery was discectomy x 2 and fused vertebrae. Also have titanium rods and screws. Will give my doc a call as you suggested.
I know what you mean. I broke my back 4 years ago and ended up with 4 pins holding my spine onto my pelvis. I asked my surgeon about running and was told he couldn't see any reason not to but to stop if it hurt. I think only you will know the difference between an ache caused by using muscles you are not used to using and any serious pain which could result in further injury. Slow and steady is the mantra. The plan does work.
Broke two vertabrae about ten years ago. Almost crippled me completely. Running has certainly not caused me further harm and I do think it is actually helping in regards to residual pain.
However - I'd be super careful if I were you and really rely on qualified medical input. Spines are tricky....
I'm finding the running is helping me too. I've been left with what is basically 24/7 sciatica because one of the pins is pinching the nerve but the risks involved in removing it are too great. I'm lucky I wasn't paralysed myself. Motorbike accident. Lots of comments now about how much easier I'm moving and straighter I'm standing. I agree about speaking to your own doctor first before serious exercise.
Thanks both. Will certainly check with docs.
