Hi Lou
The best advice is to get your gait checked and then chose your shoes accordingly, to deal with the high arches and also accommodate any other running issues/needs you may have. They can be expensive but here is what rolysmate said only a day ago
''Our local sports direct has a running cabin for gait check etc then they have lots of choice on shoes with some good prices, I got a pair of adidas for £31 which I thought was quite reasonable"
Other tips are to go to the independent stores, explain your budget and look at previous season's shoes, often they are discounted because the manufacturer prefers us to be wearing the latest season's.
As I understand it some unnamed shoe sheds often like to sell cheaper trainers and get you to buy insoles, which is really rubbish for your feet. The trainers either do the job or they don't. But as my mega fit running mate says, don't mess with your feet as they are your body's foundation.
Try to get to a running shop that offers gait analysis for free. A lot of the time they have last seasons trainers or old stock at reduced price. You are under no obligation to buy from them, although if they have any suitable trainers in the right price range, you'll be helping to support the service if you do.
I agree with jancanrun - go and have a gait analysis - normally free and you don't have to buy shoes from them. When I go mine done I bought a shoe that was an old model of a newer style. I mentioned that I liked the elastic feature and the man went and got the older version and I liked them more. They were much cheaper! Don't give up whatever you do - it's hard but you can do this! I know that you can because if I can anyone can! Update us when you find a pair!
If you can't afford or don't like the shoes they have then I'd at least buy something even if it's just a pair of socks, personally it feels a bit crappy to get get gait analysis done and use the facilities then skip off to get the shoes elsewhere.
Fair point, these places will close if everyone uses them for advice and then never buys.
Im not going to go in running shop to get gait sorted. To walkout and go elsewhere. Im not bothered about latest shoe but ive had to leave work to care for my daughter. Single patent. I dont have a lot of money. I have asics and adidas i used for gym. But there no go for running. Asics are running shoes but had them ages
My first running shoes were from Sports Direct and were about £30. I used their equipment which indicated I had high arches and needed a neutral shoe. I bought the Karrimor D30's. What I didn't know was to go up at least a half size and soon found my toes were cramped and would go numb on a run. Not great...
Once I graduated and therefore knew I was going to carry on running I had proper gait analysis and fitting. I am still in a neutral shoe but they are half a size bigger than my shoe size and are asics gel culumus 18 very comfy but pricey.
If you only have a small budget Sports Direct have cheap shoes, try the next size up and don't expect great service ( in my experience). They may not last too long, my Karrimors are pretty worn.
Hope this is helpful Louedwards.
Thankyou. At a guess plus my partner used to be a runner i think i overpronate. I like asics . Just dont want to go mad on ecpensive ones if im unsure thats what im going to do. Run. My partner saud he will buy me some for my birthday. So ive got another mobth yet to see how it goes.
I am enjoying it but running for 30 mins in 1 go seems a impossible task 😯
