Still here on the IC. Miss my runs ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

Sulking on the IC today. Although my knee pain has improved slightly (I can now walk without pain) it still hurts to go up and down stairs...no chance of running without pain.

How do you cope on the IC? I miss my runs so much. I didn't realise how much I'd come to rely on them for so many reasons. I felt really blue all week so it must be the lack of activity and fresh air. Weather hasn't helped either I guess.

It is hard and can be frustrating but you just have to know that by taking the time you need and doing any rehab exercises you have, you WILL get back out there. I had time on the couch recently following sciatica which left me with nerve damage in my left leg. Nerves are very slow to heal and I had to just wait as feeling and normal gait gradually returned. To be fair, I am not quite 100% there but I did return to my running(๐Ÿ˜ฎ) although compensatory niggles have now caused me to take a little more time off. I am away on holiday next week so will take a break and then pick up my runnning again on return. I have had to rethink the original goals I had set myself for this autumn ( a second half marathon goal has now been replaced by a 10k goal!!) but that's the running journey!! I am still pleased that I am now able to run again and know that as my body strengthens, I will get back to where I was...you will too. Do you know what has caused your knee pain btw? Lots of luck and keep checking in on here to keep you motivated and inspired.๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you for such a helpful and reassuring reply. I feel like I'm panicking that I won't ever run again which I know is silly but I was enjoying it so much.

Not sure what exactly has caused it. I went on holiday for 2 weeks and didn't run and then I think I have come back and maybe pushed myself too far and too fast.

Good luck with reaching your new goals and staying off the IC!

Being on the IC is hard but the thing to remember is you are a runner and it's for life and therefore you'll get back to it. When I was on the IC for 3 months I kept coming on here as that made me feel I was still a runner even though I wasn't actually runnng anywhere!

Can you do strengthening exercises? Keep stretching, do other workouts (for core and upper body) so you are as ready as you can be when you're fit to run.

Keep the faith, this is temporary ๐Ÿ™‚

3 months?! Wow! That's super long.

You're so right. I feel like I'm missing out and that I'll never run again. Maybe I'll forget how good it made me feel. Funny how the gremlins sometimes join us on the IC!!

I have done a couple of upper body resistance workouts this week and some knee strengthening exercises so let's hope it's doesn't take too long to get better.

Thanks for your helpful reply. I will definitely stick around the forum ๐Ÿ˜Š

Good advice given so far and I can't really add much to it. The IC is S**t. Perhaps as Irishprincess mentioned there are other things you could try? I don't know what injury you are carrying, but perhaps some core work, or swimming perhaps.

If not, just remember that it won't last forever and that first run will be all the sweeter for it. I found that the imposed break really did do me good, because when I came back I really appreciated it all the more, and I had focused better on why I was running and what I wanted to achieve.

That's a great way of looking at it. It's already made me appreciate it as I hate being without it. Can't wait to be back out there. It won't last forever...you're so right. Thank you!

I know what you mean, 20th June was my last run (and then only 2K) thanks to a sore Achilles. It's just about cleared up now, should I go for a run? I now have a dog so I've been keeping a bit fit by walking her but I have only been managing 2 to 3K before my Achilles starts to feel sore again.

Aww sorry to hear that. It's so frustrating isn't it?! Good to hear you're on the mend...hope it gets better soon!

It is hard.. take the advice of the others Sandraj39 and Irishprincess are really expert at giving great advice:) Saved me on many occasions...:)

Keep your workouts going, for all your other bits..plan out new routes and new adventures..

A bi of running retail therapy never hurts either... I have just managed my first, proper, run...just running, not walk/run... after climbing off the IC on the 22nd July... the runs were still there, and it felt great...:)

We do feel blue, our happy hormones get depressed:( But you will get there!!!

PS

If that pain does not abate.... get it checked out!!

Thank you old floss.

It's hard to remember that the runs will always be there when we are fit and ready. No one is going to take them away from us...why do I panic?!

I have bought some new trainers because 1. It might have been the cause of the injury and 2. Because I was bored to tears and needed cheering up ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for your wise advice as usual!
