Good evening fellow runners. So tonight was week 5 run 1, yet another night of poor sleep meant that I wasn't as raring to go as I usually am. The first 5 minute run was tough, but the second started at the bottom of a steep incline that last week I only hit during the recovery walks. I could see it coming so I had a word with myself before it and although my legs were burning I kept going. That was followed by a slight incline all the way to the top of the wonderful downhill for the final run. By the third 5 minutes I did find myself enjoying it again but those first two runs were very tough. It is down to me though, I've been so busy I've barely drank anything today. Also had a heavy baked potato for lunch. Isn't it funny how food can make you so lethargic even though you ate it hours before? Or maybe I'm just making excuses.
Anyway, run 1 done. Run 2 planned for Wednesday. Sneaky peek showed 8 mins of running ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฎ
Picture today is the lovely view I get when I come back on to the estate where we live, and a picture of me with my daughter Erica showing off my Virtual Runner Millies Trust medal for last weeks 5km โค๏ธ๐

I hear ya Mrs T. I'm pretty much in the same place as you. I did W5 R1 on Thursday and planned on doing R2 on Saturday but had such an awful night's sleep (went to bed at 11pm and woke at 2am and just couldn't get back to sleep) I gave it a miss as I felt I'd be setting myself up for a fall. Didn't get around to doing R2 until today.
I don't seem to sleep well at all and hoped that doing C25K would help with that but it hasn't :(.
Very well done for completing R1 without a good nights sleep - that takes loads of motivation - and I salute you. Good luck for R2. If you could do that today, you'll smash it.
Thank you for those words. It's really helped cheer me up to be honest. Not got that runners high tonight. I was very restless overnight. Then had a dream I was carrying my younger cat on a train. Woke up to find my older cat lay on me with his paws over my shoulder. He barely left me alone for some reason and every time I moved he was in my face! At least I can blame him rather than my son today. Always seems to be a Sunday where I sleep the least.
How did you find Run 2? It looks daunting. Although not as much as fun 3!. Well done for doing it too, it's not easy is it sometimes?
I'm a Turner. Although feeling like I should update my name as MrsT seems very formal when people use it ๐๐
I know what you mean. When you've done a run feeling like that it feels more like a tick box exercise than anything else and you're just glad you can strike it off the list... but you DID do it so runners high or not, you've got it out the way
You should really have words with the cat though and explain it's unacceptable to sabotage your runs.
I didn't look ahead with what was involved with run 2. Like with previous weeks I expected the whole week to be the same run/walk pattern so was a bit OMG when I pressed play on the app and found out it wasn't the same as run 1.. but I did it. I actually found it easier than run 1 and I think that was partly due to not knowing beforehand so I just got on with it.
Embrace "MrsT". A few people call me that in "real life" and it's more affectionate than formal.
Hi both of you, I think it's just a rubbish time of year for sleeping, that's my thought. I've had 3 nights with heat, noise and a slightly full stomach all playing their part in messing about with my sleep. Fab medal Mrs T and you promised the pic of Erica too, she's so cute! When I did some forum searching Week 5 is one of the toughest yet, because it's mixes things up and bizarrely I found R2 better than R1. You'll both smash this you know you will. If I did and I reckon I'm about 20 years older than both of you, then you will. I now don't peek, oldfloss told me not too, as it can make you nervous. Go ladies Mrs Ts!
Oops well 15 degrees is hot to some people... does that get me off the hook? My brother in law lives in Mass USA and 15 degrees is positively tropical for about 8 months of the year. Do I keep on digging this hole? Or should I slowly slink away?
You have pointed out several factors that are crucial to having a good run...........a good night's sleep, regular and adequate hydration and eating far enough in advance for it not to interfere with your running.
This a training plan, not a tick box exercise. Each run is training for the next one, so learn from this, accept that it's impossible to control everything, but at least set things up as well as you can. It really can make a huge difference.
