I usually drop my daughter off at school, nip back home then off out for a run twice a week and out 1st thing sunday morning. Now the 6weeks holidays have started im struggling to get in a new routine. My daughter (who is 8) is willing to come with me if she can ride alone next to me on her scooter but over the last 2 week's the weather has not permitted it and she has been ill so ive only been able to go out on a sunday morning. I just worried ill undo all the hardwork ive done.
Struggling to keep to plan now 6 weeks holiday... - Couch to 5K
Struggling to keep to plan now 6 weeks holidays are here.
Are you on Week 5 ish? I checked your posts, but could not work it out ( going a bit loopy I am)!
Try not to worry... life means we have to jig stuff around We don't lose fitness that quickly and with a small 8 year old.. you will have a good level of fitness already
If she is better.. then do the runs when you can, and Sunday is the day you can still go out anyway...Make the most of any dry spells or... tog her up for wet weather days ( not torrential rain )...and you run anyway.. scooting and splashing thro puddles can be fun...honestly it can!
Grabbing the chances when you can is sometimes the only way.. does she have a time when she plays with a friend... that could work, otherwise, don;t worry, it may take longer but you will get there
Im due to do r3w6 on sunday. Ok thanks. Shes on the mend now so hopefully will be able to get bk on track next week, weather permitting. Dont mind drizze but its been down pouring here most of the week!
It can be so hard working around the kids can't it? I work at home Friday's and the plan is to run on my lunch break but I have my 4 year old with me today as she is also on school holidays. So I have to wait until my husband gets home which means I won't get out until 7pm (same as Monday & Wednesday). It is hard because I am itching to go out but I can't. She is too young to do it with me, although she did attempt a Body Coach HIIT session with me yesterday
Is there any family that could watch her for the time you need? Maybe take her to their house and run from there? I do this sometimes on a Monday evening if I don't think I can get out too late, I go to my mum and dad's and run from there instead while they watch the kids for me.
Sorry, not much help really. x
Finding time to exercise as a single parent is difficult in the holidays. I do my weight workouts at 0530 outside so I'm done before they are awake, but running is a bit more difficult. I have in the past run up and down the street literally outside my house, 100m up the road, back, 100m down the road, back. It's not ideal, but I figure I'm close enought to the house to notice if it catches fire, the kids know where i am if anything happens and they wake up and could just come out and get me, and at that time of the morning there aren't too many neighbours to wonder WTF I am doing.
One 'lap' is 400m so it is effectively the same as running round a track.
Fitting runs in around children is hard. My two are 10 and 8 and I took them to the park this morning so they could play on the swings while I ran round and round (W7R2). It's actually better running there than round the streets at home as the park is flat but it does feel odd driving somewhere so I can then run. It helps that they can play together and I know they will keep each other company.
