Hi I graduated last week and was amazed that I could run 30mins. As my 30mins don't cover 5k working to increase my speed aiming to get to 5k. However today was dreadful. Everything hurt, lower back, fat tummy bounced and sore (lost2.5 stone since January 1.5 to go) sports bra lost its job description and too much bounce. Knees hurt and ankle. Even with my new bff Micheal, got sworn at today but don't think he heard. Umm not sure whether to run on Saturday

There is another way to get to 5k,..,,,, run a little longer each week. When you have consolidated the 5k distance, then aim to quicken.

You need to listen to your body 😀🏃🏻‍♀️

Thank you I took the advice and took my time and enjoyed my run this am

I looked at it differently...I ran for longer until I was doing 5k. The quickest I've run 5k so far is 39 minutes and I don't expect I'll ever do it in 30 minutes, but it's doing it at all that counts! I'd suggest you concentrate on running for 30 minutes until you're comfortable with that, then gradually run a bit longer each time. When you hit 5k you'll have choices: you could try gradually increasing your speed, or gradually increase your distance, or find more challenging routes, or just carry on as you are.

Thank you I took my time this morning with no pressure and enjoyed it again. As a novice I'm on a long learning curve

Slow down now.... you graduated a week ago:)

Now.. take some time just to consolidate the 30 minutes, but not every run... Try a shorter run, a slow run and as Millsie-J suggests, a longer run. Enjoy the runs, just because you can run...:) Changes of route and variation can all help, building up our stamina and our running strength!

Your body is telling you something...listen to it. Better to kick back and relax., than to push too hard too soon. You will get to 5K, you will..but you need to try to do that safely and having had fun:)

Maybe, have look at the C25K+ podcasts too, when you have done another week or so... they help terrifically with different disciplines of our running too! Many graduates used and still use them :)

Run on Sunday if you feel like it, run if you don't, either way it will help you; but run it slowly and in a relaxed, I am a runner, way...just a ,see where I get to run ?:)

Keep us posted please:)

Thank you , you also encouraged me on my first runs. I took the advice and ran again this morning but in my own time with no pressure. I will try the podcasts too. I will build on my new skill and enjoy just running and getting fit

Very well done :)

We all have tricky runs but I think you are maybe expecting too much of yourself at a very early stage. You (like me) are still a novice, we are learning technique and finding out what our bodies can do. As Oldfloss advises, take it slowly, mix it up a bit and have FUN, consolidating the 30 minutes. That way you will grow in confidence and keep getting stronger without risking injury.

I would say that you should definitely run either Sunday or Monday. Go out at a nice slow pace and see what happens.....

I doubt I will ever run a sub 30 minute 5k but this week I ran 7k just a few weeks after graduation 😎🏃🏃‍♀️

Thank you it's good to hear from another novice. I did run this am in my own time and enjoyed it. Like you said consolidate on my running and build on it in my own time

Wot they said! Speed really really doesn't matter. Just keep increasing the distance - a bit at a time. I graduated 3 years ago, and I am still happy if I do 2 4k runs and a 5k per week (quite often I don't, but that's my target) My fastest 5k is still 40 mins, but I never intended to compete with Mo Farah anyway! One day I will move on to 10K, but there's no hurry.
