I've gained 8 lb's...I know you can gain water weight and muscle weighs more than fat, my clothes seem to fit the same, but 8 lb's seems a big jump! Is this normal and will the scale go down at some point? I did slimmingworld and lost 2 stone but now have put all this back on. It's a bit disheartening

Gaining weight
Have you tried monitoring your food intake? I'm using MapMyFitness app to record everything I eat and drink. It has really helped me break my bad snacking habits. The other day I was temptedby a chocolate muffin in Starbucks, but when I added it to my food diary and saw the effect, I thought "no way". I'm down 9kg in about 6 weeks.
Previously, when I have tried exercise, I think my calorie intake went up to compensate so I never lost the weight (or more importantly the belly inches). This time, using the app to restrict my calorie intake to 1800 per day seems to be working.
I have been in the same boat as you I lost weight with wwatchers then started putting it back on when I started excersise . I can assure you it will come back off . I found just going back on plan for a few weeks to check portion size and cut out snacks soon saw the numbers start coming down . And yes you are gaining muscle but most of all you are gaining fitness and becoming more healthy .
Oh Sarah, I know as someone who does WeightWatchers how disheartening this can be. Last week I stuck to the food plan and did all my runs and only lost a crappy half pound. I did the same this week and I put on 2lbs. I didn't even bother going to weigh in. I'll be watching the replies on this as I'll be interested in the answers too.
Forget the scales - buy a dress one size (or 2) too small for you now - your goal is to then fit into it comfortably. Then buy another dress one size too small - rinse and repeat. Much more satisfying than watching those scales .
Exercise doesn't generally work for weight loss but that is mainly because people eat more. I went for a run so I deserve a treat sort of thing. Sometimes without even realising.
If weight watchers worked for you, go back to it. But when you get to your ideal weight you can't go back to eating like you did before or you will put it all back on. You need to find something you can stick to for ever. For me that's intermittent fasting but everyone is different.
Good luck with the running and the weight loss.
I've been doing this programme for approx 10 weeks now and I'm on w7 r3. (Repeated a few weeks) and overall I've put a pound on since starting. I was really disheartened by this as I need to lose at least a stone, however, yesterday someone I haven't seen in a while asked me how much weight I'd lost as he said I look brill..I was so chuffed. Others have asked too. My clothes are looser and I'm almost into the next size down. I think the weight will eventually start coming off after graduation and as we keep up the longer runs. I'm hoping anyway. I've ditched the diet I've been on all my life and feel so much more positive about myself. I try not to eat rubish now but don't restrict anything as I became so obsessed with what I couldn't have that I wanted it more. I know it doesn't work for everyone but I'm sure you will see the benefits as this programme progresses. Im going down the thoughts of if i look better and feel better i dont care what the scales say.. Good luck 😊
I really recommend resisting the scales and using your clothes or a tape measure to monitor fat (*note NOT weight) loss. Aim to enjoy running for itself instead of a means to loose weight. And be patient; I've lost weight running with no calorie counting but it's not a quick fix. Just stick to healthy real foods and don't eat rubbish or overeat as a *reward*
I know this will sound unbelievable, but I lost 30 lbs over a year by just eating WFPB. Look up WFPB if you haven't heard of it. There's a pack of about six unrelated doctors that espouse it and it works without even trying to lose. I had always dieted in the past and it never worked--I would give up after getting too hungry. Some of the doctors are: Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, and a guy named T. Colin Campbell. There's no need to count calories, carbs, or etc.--just eat WFPB things....
