I got into jogging so I could become fitter, not have a heart attack at 50 and lose weight. I'm doing slimming world and I've lost about 2 stone since September.
I'm currently on week 4. It's took about 7 weeks as I'm taking it slow since I'm 6stone over weight (at least!). I'm still jogging 3 times a week but taking my time about it!
My issue is that for the last 3 weeks I've put 1/2 a pound on each week. I'm fully sticking to plan regarding dieting. The ONLY difference is that I've upped my jogging. Im enjoying jogging. I don't want to stop jogging. But I also don't want to be 18stone forever!!! Anyone else gaining weight when they first start jogging?! Im only doing about 18 minutes jogging during my jogging sessions. I mean surely I can't be putting on muscle weight. Heeeellllpppp me!!!
No, you will not be gaining muscle weight. Not now, not ever from running. It could be a bit of water retention in the muscle tissue due to the increase in exercise but 1/2lb a week 3 weeks running... not so likely.
The most likely explanation, I'm afraid, is that you are eating more, prehaps without realising, in response to the exercise. This does happen a lot.
I have a very dim view of SW, and WW for that matter. I could happily go into a very long rant about the way their systems are supposed to work but this is not the tie for that.
The one thing i would suggest is to actually record your nutrition intake for a couple of weeks in My Fitness Pal or a similar app and pinpoint exactly what your calorie intake is, overall and if it differs on run/non run days. Also have a close look at your macros: how many carbs are in there on run days? and finally see what your metabolic rate is, allowing for the running, and see whether you are exceeding it.
I am 99percent certain this will give you your answer.
Not got anything of help to say, rignold is definitely the person for that, just wanted to say I empathise, I definitely eat more when I've exercised thinking I deserve it on some level. I need to snap out of eating for reward and for comfort. Good luck and most importantly don't stop running!
Some are previously sedentary people who started running as part of a fitness/weight loss programme. Some run, but the exercise makes them hungry or gives them the perception they cannot gain weight if they are active, so they eat more. ... Many runners are active for 30-90 minutes a day and sit the rest of the time.
To shed that extra, stop eating most things between meals and decrease meal portions.
I appreciate how much the weight loss means to you, and you're clearly doing lots of things to work towards it. The running will really help your fitness, motivation and determination above just weight loss - so don't give up. Try speaking to your consultant. Sadly SW doesn't really take high levels of exercise into account - but hopefully your consultant can give you advice. Good luck!
Rignold is right.... it is hard maybe to take in... but the facts are correct.
But, this programme still can be helpful in so many ways... take a look at your eating pattern and maybe make some changes... it is not as hard as you may think ...
I am a WW member and proud to be so 😃 If it hadn't been for them I would not have found this programme
If you run regularly,,walk as much as possible, and keep active generally then you should lose weight. You Don't need extra grub til you are running beyond 10k
Have a critical look at your eats 👀 and drinks too
I had the same issue, it's very common for new runners to gain a little weight - I have done a fair bit of research on this, you may be gaining a little muscle but still have the fat - continue to run and eat healthy and the fat will start to reduce and so will your weight. Hope this helps
Have you heard of a whole food plant based diet. I'm so full of energy and the weight is just dropping off me (I was 15+ stone and now 9st 13.4lb!) I read the book eat to live by dr Joel fuhrmen and started with his 6 week plan. It can be tough at first but give it a few weeks and you'll be feeling amazing and the weight will fall off. Hope that helps you, it's changed my life x
Aw don't give up - it could be water retention. I am on W2R1 tomorrow- before starting I measured myself as although you might think your body is not responding via any weight loss it can take time for this to happen. However you will see a difference in cm or inches however you measure. I also took a full body selfie and plan to do this each week during the programme. Good luck and keep positive 👍🏃🏼♀️
Thanks for the responses. You're right. It's very hard to swallow. I do a food diary and have done so since September. I can't see any changes since starting to jog. We cook meal for 4 from recipe's and then split then over 4 days. I have the same treats every night (a mini areo mint and mini skittles!). I dont have aby extra food jb yhe cuoboards as me ab my boyfriebd both do slimmibg world. Maybe I eat an additional yoghurt or something.... I'm feeling quite down.
