Hi, I am completely new to running but I would love to give it a go. Coming up to 56, have put on weight due to lack of exercise and picking in the evening. Any tips, encouragement, inspiration, all greatly received thank you

Just give it a go. The Sense of achievement when you run further than you ever have before which happens every week is fantastic. Get your running gear on at the next opportunity, put on the app or podcast and head out the door. Then let us all know how it went so we can say yay well done.
Enjoy.
Thank you
I'm 55 on Sunday and I have just completed week one, give it a go, nice and slowly it's not a race, I'm sure you'll get a lot out of it, good luck.
Yes go for it. Best thing I've done in ages. Take it at your own speed and in your own time. Take the pressure off and enjoy some me time. Good luck!
Just stick the podcast on and walk out the door...the first five minute walk is really pleasant and everything else just sort of happens in a momentum-y kind of inevitable-ness.
Take it from an ex-couch potato, it will change your life. Just do it. Don't sit on the couch thinking about it. Get out the door. It's me time. Feck everything and everyone else, go and do it for yourself. You won't recognise yourself in 10 weeks time.
GET OFF THE COUCH!!!!
No thought needed.. this is one of the best things ever!!! At 67!!! Yep and I am one of the younger seasoned runners.. I am still running nearly two years on, three times a week!
You will feel fitter, leaner... keener and dare I say, happier
Link this great programme with a healthy eating regime( not a diet).... and you are onto a winner. When you sit on the couch in the evening you will do it, resting in the glow of after run..
We will support, encourage sympathise, empathise and shove if necessary.
Start this... I shall wait for your first run post. Slow and steady is the way!
Go for it!!!!! Im 60 next week started c25k august last year after a long..... time thinking about it & I didn't find the forum until after i started so you made a great start writing here first!! BEST thing i ever did as it gave me more confidence in not caring what people thought of me running at my age!! As they would know by my speed or lack of speedπ i was new to this!! I had more energy & best of all ate healthier & didn't pick so much at night as ran then!! I got out of the routine after a fall on black ice in feb and this is just me getting back into and up to running 26mins now and i feel so much better!! Don't get me wrong there are times i feel this is so hard going why am I doing this but see after the run i feel great! Keep posting on hete as everyone same as you we all started at "getting off the couch " and advise & encouragement fantastic! Im looking forward to hearing all about first runπgo go go.... ππ
If you want to change your life.........you have to get up and do it.
There is nothing stopping you..........is there?
Do it.
Down load the podcasts and off you go....
Thanks to everyone who has responded! Your words are encouraging and your experiences inspiring! I have just ordered some running shoes now to look for a good sports bra, then earphones ... and i will be off! Will keep you posted
