Anyone got suggestions for good running music?
Music please!: Anyone got suggestions for good... - Couch to 5K
Music please!
This will make you laugh. But believe me it works, well for me anyway. Spotify have play lists for running. I like to run to Rap Music. Yes Explicit Rap Music.
Would never normally ever listen to Rap, but for running it really works. Did 5k this evening to explicit lyrics. It makes me giggle and the beat really helps with the run.
I use the 50s and 60s compilations in Rock my Run. Can make running feel like dancing and I have found that rock and roll rhythm just right.
The Rocky soundtracks are good! You can also pretend you are Rocky in the running scenes!!!
I'm another "Rock My run" fan. There are lists that match different bpm so you can either match your normal pace or challenge yourself with something a little faster. There's everything from country to hard rock... I'm a fan of the 1980s/90s 10k playlists.
I downloaded the Deezer app and searched for running playlists at 150bpm, which seems about right for me at this stage - bit of an eclectic mix of new-ish and older stuff - from Florence and the Machine to The Cure and Dire Straits!
Norwegian Black Metal and Polka music.
Mixed together at best.
Rock my Run.. great and sadly, ABBA keeps me going
Wow thank you everybody! I really look forward to giving these a try and finding what works.
Rap music??!! Hate it, but hey it might well work because I'd go faster just so I can get to switch it off!! Norwegian Black Metal and Polka music sounds very intriguing, got to find that for curiosity's sake. Spotify and Deezer, great ideas, and never heard of rock my run, sounds perfect.
Thank you all! Rock on
In my opinion, you must avoid Amy Winehouse as she makes me cry but love her nonetheless. There are loads of playlists out there. The only thing I'd truthfully recommend whether it's death metal or garage, is that make sure you're okay with the tempo. I find I try to run way too fast when I've got faster rockier music, so sometimes end up totally out of puff which can be off-putting.
And frankly 70s cheesy music just makes me giggle, so all those stupid hits from cutting edge folk like Bobby Goldsborough, Terry Jacks and Gilbert O'Sullivan, make me realise I have become my gran.
Wrong gender - but... youtube.com/watch?v=eYlJH81...
My suggestion is just to run to whatever music you like. I don't care whether its fast or slow, as long as its a song I like.
It doesn't make me change my speed either way, so its more important for me that it captures my imagination. Running for me is my head-space time, so if it sets of some memories or emotions then that is nice either way.
I can't imagine putting up with something I did really like just because it was the right bpm.
Rock my Run is awesome! Thank you peoples, going to use it for my first 20 minuter tomorrow
Try a variety of your favourite tracks that you like to listen to and see which one seems to fit your running 'style'. Then go online and find out how many beats per minute it is. Then you can use that to find more - yes, the actual 'notes and lyrics' are important, but if you have a too-fast or too-slow track playing it can really throw you off pace or have you running too fast. that's my ten pence worth anyway
Thank you! Yes I agree, I need it to be the right speed or I'll be all over the place!
PS - it does not need to be the beat that hits every time your foot hits the ground - I have tracks of 88 BPM that hit on every second step I take - I still get to run at 176 BPM or thereabouts anyway without have darn fast music
It totally depends what kind of mood you are in and what kind of run you want to have. I was panicking a bit pre-run last week, thinking I wouldn't be able to do a run I'd planned due to the heat and recent lack of fitness. I initially went out with my normal playlist of generally upbeat running music but it wasn't helping me feel more calm, and I found putting on a more mellow album really helped my mood, motivation and calm. (The band was called Nizlopi, you might know the JCB song they did years ago, their album Half These Songs Are About You is one of my favourites generally and I'm really enjoying running to it). It enabled me to go at a steady pace and I felt much more capable. I use Spotify. I also am loving running to "Runnin'" by Beyoncé and I also recommend "Surprise Yourself" by Jack Garrett. That's my two cents. Hope you find some new music you like!
