Graduation run should be tonight or tomorrow. Well it won't be tonight. Woke up this morning with pain in my leg. Right at the top. Not sure if it's the hip joint or muscle. It's not happy that I have been sat still all day.
Not sure what caused it. Not run since Saturday so don't think it's that. Hopefully if I stretch tonight it will be better tomorrow. Otherwise graduation will be on Saturday.
Such a shame you've had to delay good luck with your final run whenever it happens.
Be easy on yourself, rest and walk or swim. You will graduate very soon I'm sure😁
I'm an advocate of stretching exercises. But on this occasion, I wouldn't recommend it. If the pain is a strain injury, stretching it while it's already painful is likely to tear it more.
Standing straight up, can you raise your knee to waist height, not straight legged, just as though you're about to step on something. Can you do that without pain?
Next would be, can you raise the knee exactly the same as described, but this time, once raised, can you then rotate the upper leg out to the side, such that you're opening up the pelvis. Sort of as though you're striding over something to the side. Can you do that without pain?
If you can't do either, then I'd suspect you've pulled your quad. If you can do the former but not the latter, I'd better on a hip problem. Not necessarily the joint itself, more likely a hip flexor muscle strain.
If you can do both of these without too much pain, I'd suggest a few sets of the second exercise, done swiftly but not fast, just to warm the joint and get some blood circulating in the area. But I wouldn't actually stretch it until it's completely pain free.
Sort of like using your knee to draw a circle in the air.
Thanks. That's helpful. The first is fine. The second OK but not so comfortable so I think that's where the problem lies.
