Beautiful day for a park run, was feeling good. Had decided to stick with a 30 minute pacer so bit literally 90 seconds in and I twist my knee on uneven ground. I have a dodgy weak knee that has plagued me since teens, but hasn't caused me problems recently, but I naturally run with caution. The park run people were so lovely, but I felt so frustrated I actually had a little cry! I've come straight home to get the knee elevated with some ice...no idea how long I'll be out of action for and how much fitness will be lost as a result. Feeling low. Anyone else on the IC and want to wallow with me?
The dreaded IC: Beautiful day for a park run... - Couch to 5K
The dreaded IC
I'm up for wallowing 😢 You know what to do rest up and here's to a speedy recovery x
I have been wallowing for twelve days... got off the IC yesterday for a short, slow and steady run... It was brilliant!!!
So...be patient, rest the knee and then gentle exercises and maybe a support if needed? Plan routes, do upper body and one legged exercises... ( my injury was calf injury.. ) one legged squats are fun and entertain one's family!!!
I caught up with writing and finishing some watercolours and I did manage to walk after 8 days too.. It will pass!!! The running teaches us so much about ourselves and discipline..
Big Hug....
So glad you're back out there running Oldfloss! 🙂Three and a half weeks out for me now and still a few to go, I think. 😕My back is much better but I am still getting over the damage the sciatica caused! Definately much better this week however and my physio says I am doing well and I WILL be running again soon! Nerves are slow to heal I'm afraid. I keep taking crafty little jogs to test out how things feel! Missing my planned local 10k run tomorrow but off to watch my husband run it instead. Really glad for him as he was out for about 18mths with a bad knee and never thought he would run again! Next year of course, I will be back and out to beat him!!!🙂x
Oh dear... this IC is a pain! Literally! Sorry you are missing the 10K but definitely make sure you are completely fit to get out there! next year you will be zooming past your husband.
I have had three runs.. two were fine..this morning's run.. fine until the last bit.. then a twinge... I had to stop and am really bothered and flummoxed!!! ( Shall do a post later) xx
Thanks so much Oldfloss, brilliant advice, I will be patient as not let the exercise go completely out of the window, will def have a go at the one legged squats as you've suggested! Very glad to hear you've managed your first run off the IC, you'll be back on top form before you know it 😊 Hugs back!
I have had my fair share of injury and illness this year so I know how you feel!. Sadly that is just the way it goes sometimes and I guess we learn to roll with the punches! Currently recovering from a nasty bout of sciatica but slowly improving and hope to be back in 2-3 weeks. It is frustrating and my summer running plans are lying on the wayside, but hey, I plan to be back running my trails like I always do in the autumn. In the meantime I am focusing on improving my core. Remember, 'every set back paves the way for a great come back'! Stay positive🙂🏃🏽♀️
Sorry you're on the couch, hope it won't be for long. I've just got off last weekend & managed two short runs on grass & soft track to avoid further shin injuries. I have to say that ice every evening & a roll on Biofreeze gel have been my saviours as well as strengthening exercises. Keep positive!
