I need to get new running shoes. I completed week 3 yesterday but it was so uncomfortable and I'm sure it's down to my old trainers. But, I haven't got the money to buy expensive ones. I'm going to have to buy from a high street store because of my limited budget. Can anyone give me some advice on what to look out for please?

The other option is to go to a running shop and find out what is best for you and then see if you can find online. Yes you are looking in the region of £100 for a good pair from a shop, but a lot of them are happy to give advice too! I didn't know but buy a running shoe 1size bigger than your dress shoes! Many will also check your cadence and foot fall to make sure you get the right shoes. Go in and ask!

I've just bought some online at sportsshoes.com they was a variety of prices mine cost £27.49 asics gel contour, haven't tried them to run in yet, but the reviews were good. Have you got any outlet places near to you, sometimes you can pick up branded shoes cheap that way too?
I don't what your budget is I just googled running shoes on a budget and this is one of the responses expertreviews.co.uk/health-...
I hope it helps. I started with a pair of Karrimor from Sports Direct then progressed to a pair of ASICS i ordered online at a discounted price.
It might be worth putting out a request on your local Freegle group or looking in charity shops - you could be lucky. Otherwise how about the big supermarkets for just a basic trainer if it is the 'oldness' of what you have that is the problem rather than the fit. What sort of 'uncomfortable' are you experiencing?
Can you save up? I started out in (lightweight) walking boots as I didn't possess any trainers (and even now I will occasionally run in active sandals)
It helps if you don't try to run fast and you can stick to more forgiving surfaces than pavement or tarmac.
New Balance do free p&p for orders over £50 and free returns, so you can order a variety from them to try. They are pretty quick in my experience with the refunds so might work if cashflow is a problem and they have a sale on at the moment. There may well be other online companies with similar policies. Lots of people report running shops being helpful if you tell them your budget... if it is the wrong shoe and puts you off running, it doesn't matter how cheap it was, you've wasted your money.
Have a look in the sweatshop they often have good reductions all be it the sizes can be limited
A gait analysis in a specialist running shop will show whether you require support shoes. Many people's feet roll inwards or outwards on contact with the ground and having appropriate footwear can support this and prevent future injury. This is often a free service.
The surface you run on predominantly, also has a bearing. If you run offroad then trail shoes are a good idea and, because of the nature of the surface, trail shoes are not support shoes. My first shoes were Karrimor Tempo trail shoes, because I only ran through fields and tracks. They were cheap although not very durable. However, I was using those same shoes on the road when I sustained my first running injury. Whether they contributed or not, I don't know, but I invested in a pair of road shoes, after gait analysis, and have had no recurrence of that problem. I still have a pair of Tempo trail shoes, used once a week for off road running.
I am no expert but I have just graduated and the whole thing has been done in basic trail (because I run off road) running shoes from Decathlon. They cost around £20. I found them perfectly adequate although I may just treat myself to a 'better' pair now I hope to run for longer. They were comfortable straightaway and haven't rubbed or made my feet sore. They have a huge selection too, at reasonable prices. xx
