You'll get lots of different answers, as different makes suit different feet. I buy Salomon for absolutely everything - running, hiking, skiing, going to the pub, because their shoes suit my feet. A good running shop will be able to look at your feet and advise what would suit you.

Hi Mandy, you can spend a lot of time and a lot of money trying to find that "perfect" pair of running shoes.

A lot will depend on where you run: treadmill, road, off-road. I do all my running on the roads, so I needed a pair with good shock absorption. So the soles of mine are more of a foam material. It compresses nicely to absorb the impact. They were not that expensive and I have not suffered any problems such as shin splints, strains or sprains.

But like telford_mike says, best go to your local sports shop and get some advice, just be careful that they're are trying to sell you the BEST pair you can afford and are not just trying to sell you the most expensive pair you can afford.

Hi Mandy, like you I wanted (felt I’d earned!) to buy some proper running shoes so on Monday I went to my nearest running shop which is Up and Running. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They spent time and filmed my gait (interesting!) and as they didn’t have the colour I wanted in stock they have ordered me the ones I want. Hopefully I pick them up early next week - very exciting and can’t wait :). Hope you find what you want. 😊

There's no one "best", I'm sure!

Best are the ones that fit you properly and are designed for running on your chosen terrain. Find your local running shop and visit them... you'll soon have 23 👍😉

What sort of price should I pay as don’t want to get ripped of by the shops

They can be pricey at around £100 but if you ask for previous years' models or check out the sales you can pick them up much cheaper.
