Week 1 New runner and it is 30 degrees here - help!

I am a lapsed runner - in 2015 managed a 10k run, but since then motivation been a problem and not done anything for over a year. Decided that Michael Johnson would be just the ticket to get me started again. But (and I know this is a first world problem!) I am an expat and currently it is 30+ degrees where I live - its roughly 26 degrees at about 7am in the morning, So am trying to work out how to keep going when it's so hot....

I have done Week 1 Run 1 so far and tomorrow is scheduled for Run 2

Hi. I'm expat too. It's been so hot I've been running at 6 am. I'm week 4. I never thought I'd get up early to run , but it's about getting it over and done with before it's too hot hopefully I'll start enjoying it soon!

Just get out earlier :)

In the Dordogne last August...It was hot..... heat warnings out... :) I got out before 6.... it was okay :)

Just hydrate well every day... and head out early.... steady and slow )

Well I got out earlier than normal at 8am and luckily we had thunderstorms last night so it was cooler - still 25 degrees though. Anyway run 2 done! yes hydration I think is probably the big thing now, as a famous lizard type person who doesn't normally drink much liquid at all, this is another lifestyle challenge.

I'm the south of France, so I know your problem. Soak your hair in cold water before you go out, and carry a wet cloth for wiping face and neck. Don't expect too much of yourself, you'll be slower in the heat.

in reply toCurlygurly2

Oh the wet hair idea is a good one, I hadn't thought of that and the wet cloth too might help, althought at present am struggling with an iphone that wont play my music, so I keep getting distracted and faffing with the settings. Still it's early days.

Well done, and apply all the wise advice above. I'll join the chorus of expats - I'm in the Languedoc and I check out the weather forecast to run at the coolest time of the day, which is invariably stupid o'clock. I applied Curlygurly2 's advice on Sunday, when I was running across vineyards in the sun in a midmorning race... Hurray for Curly! I think it saved me from being picked up by the numerous paramedics along the route.

As a lizard and die hard stay in bed person, stupid o'clock is a horrid time whenever it falls, so I am giving myself a big challenge to do the 3rd run on Saturday before 8am....
