Does anyone listen to podcasts or books while running? I'm running on a treadmill so it can get a bit boring. I should add that I do listen to music currently.
Listening to audio books while running? - Couch to 5K
Listening to audio books while running?
I listen to podcasts and find that it can take my mind off the running.
Currently have Woman's hour, Ramblings, Soul Music and Here's the Thing with Alex Baldwin
I think lots of folk on here do, I have to say I don't as I really enjoy music! 😎
Ive listened to podcast and audio book. I prefer podcast because I realised I was zoning out and missing parts of book. Not so much big deal with podcast
I listen to the Big Finish audiobooks - they are actually full cast dramas. I also download stuff from Radio 4 and Radio 4 Extra. I know I am not the only one in here to prefer the spoken word to music.
My favourite spoken podcast is the BBC Ouch disability podcast.
Like Aquila12 I have a tendency to zone out of full length books although I have listened to a few really good ones (borrowed from the library digital audiobook scheme)
Gardeners' Question Time is great but no good if you are trying to work on your speed!
I use cardio time as 'free study' time and listen to textbooks to. I find I absorb the information really well while running.
I like novels and have trained myself on long walks to focus. Given my life is super busy, this is the only time I have for 'reading'. Sometimes I like a podcast to catch up with the Archers (sad but true) or some R4 comedy, Ted Talks or This Life.
If I have work or family things to think about or if I just want to zone out then music or silence When you think about it, we are so lucky these days with so much to entertain us.
Archers podcast? Ooh no. Sunday morning Archers Omnibus is a sacred tradition in my household.
Thanks - these are really helpful suggestions. I listen to some R4 podcasts and audio books already but wasn't sure about concentrating on them while running. I'm going to give it a go this week now I'm moving into longer run times.
Lots of good running podcasts out there to suit all abilities.. Really useful to pick up some tips.
I find podcasts are great for running at my own pace on a long slow run. Music can help if you want to keep going at a certain pace, but I find it much more interesting to listen to a podcast.
I'm currently working my way through Radio 4's "Our Man in the Middle East."
Radio 2 podcasts or I stream Absolute 80s. Songs help me calculate a point in time of a run. I know 30 minutes is roughly 8 songs
Thanks everyone. Tonight I listened to the first 3 chapters of Wuthering Heights. I'll be teaching this book next academic year and I haven't read it for about 20 years so this will be a good refresher for me then I can read it properly whilst on holiday. I think it did help keep my mind off watching the clock too much.
