But my shins were hurting on the way round. Is there anything I can do to minimise? I did warm up and stretch beforehand as I run with a group with trained leaders. Any ideas? I didn't mention it to them. Perhaps I should have.

Just keep it slow and steady... try to relax and to land lightly and gently... Kissing the ground with your feet, is, currently, my favourite description of the way to try to land
Well done I finished W4R1 yesterday - in week 3 I had a bit of shine pain so I started running on the grass not the tarmac in the park - shines have been better since. Good luck
Interesting. I had been running on grass but was struggling with that. A leader suggested moving to the path so maybe that's the key. The path was easier but not on my shins. Glad I got to the bottom of that one. Thanks.
