Tips on running in this heat??
Take care...shade, someone suggested wetting your hair, water for afterwards..but better to wait til its a bit cooler if you canπ
Suncream and sunglasses a must...
Get up early and run then if possible..or really much later in the evening
Hydrate well and a small bottle of water with you to put on your wrists or back of neck can help Besides the odd sip
Oh.. and sun cap...
Shade and sunglasses π
5:30am.........
Early or late, shade, trees, drink water, dunk your whole head in water before you go out, wear loose clothes, a hat, sun cream, run very slowly and then sit in a dark room with a very large G&T/beer/drink of choice and feel epic πͺπͺπͺ πππ
Just got in from doing the same run and feeling amazing. I decided to go a little slower and somehow clicked into a pace that suited me. Had been dreading today's run all day at work and it's turned out to be my beat one so far!
How did you get on?
I went out at 7pm..Hair up in my Buff, shades and a sleevless top. Did my 30 mins..very slowly though..π
How did you get on Penny?π
Not bad there was a slight breeze by the time I got out... stuck to the shadows!
Ensuring that the body remains sufficiently hydrated, regardless of whether you run early on a morning or later in the evening, is key to ensuring that performance doesn't suffer too greatly.
If running on a morning (before it gets too hot), drink around a pint of water/diluted juice before heading out. If running in the evening (after 7pm), ensure that at least 2L of fluid have been consumed throughout the day, so that performance isn't affected.
Since I'm a mad man, choosing to run on a weekend when the sun is at its hottest (I love runs in the heat, as I run far better), a fatty/salty breakfast, that includes bacon, avocado and eggs, sets me up perfectly, as it helps to maintain a healthy electrolyte balance when taking on water beforehand.
I just did this same run - ran up and down in the shadow cast by a cliff knowing there was cider and company waiting on the beach for me - also possibility of a dip although I chickened out! Wasn't too bad. Hot sweaty slow! Good luck
6am suits me in these warmer months.
Well done to all of you who ran in the heat. I had planned on running in the evening once it cooled down. Then my neighbour offered me prosecco in the garden. Wine and gossip won!
Running in heat is our only choice in southern Georgia. I concur with most of the other advice. Run early if possible, late if not. Stick to the shade, stay hydrated.
