Running in the heat.

So England has a bit of a heat wave this week. Is it ambitious for a beginner like me to run about 6pm in the sun?

You should be fine then as long as you drink lots of water before you go out.

I am on week 4 and went for a run yesterday at about 6.30pm and found it quite tough. We are going to change to morning runs on hot days now. Suggest you try to pick a shady route and take some water with you! xx

I really struggled today in the heat - stupidly didn't take any water and went about 2.30pm - normally a good time for me.

Early evening or first thing in the morning would be best I think after my experience today!

I run first thing in the morning 7 - 7.30'ish but it can be pretty warm by the end of a run even then. I did run last October in Mexico at about 6.00am it was around 25C but the humidity was 80-90% so I drank 2 glasses of water before leaving and 2 - 3 once I was back. However your body does get used to the warmer weather just as your body has got used to the running. Just listen to it and if you get a headache after a run the chances are you are dehydrated so drink some more juice or water. Then a cup of tea will quench your thirst beautifully - sorted.

I went at 9pm on Monday and it was lovely. No sun so nice and cool but still quite warm and still just about light when I got back at 9.45pm. I prefer not to run that late ideally, as I'm a woman and worry about getting attacked, but it actually worked really well, and I run beside a fairly busy road.

Just got back from my run, left about 7.30pm. Was still boiling so it was harder, but I did it! Thanks for your suggestions, I will give them a go.
