Pale Irish running in Californian heat!

Hi - I am an Irish woman living in California for 1 year - just a few weeks left. I have registered for a 5k Run for Breast Cancer Ireland in Kilkenny early September so I am now on Week 3 of the training, day 1 of week 3 just completed & it is a hot 26 out there already. I just wanted to chat with other like minded runner/joggers who for preservation really have decided to take up running! Thanks guys, Gemma.

Welcome Gemma, you'll find plenty of friendly advice and support here.

Well done for having a target to aim for and such a worthy cause.

Happy Running!

Thank you! It is not easy but even running for those x2 3 minute intervals today was such a buzz! 3 weeks ago running for 30 seconds was hard.

Hi Gemma,

I live in Navan and have also started to run, for preservation as well. I turned 43 last week and have not been fit for a long time, since my early 20's. So making up for miss spent mid 20's to early 40's. Better late than never. I'm on Week 6 and just started a couple of months ago. When you get towards the end of the plan you should enter for a few Park Runs, I have done 3 now, just walk/run so far but managing to run more every time.

Enjoy the rest of your time in California and bring some good weather back with you.

Thanks Damien! Well if we don't do it now ... I turn 41 next week ... I will do thanks - home for good to Tipperary in 4 weeks time, will be easier not running in this heat! I will start with the 5k in KK - it is around the grounds of the castle so it should be nice.

I travel to Austin, TX for work. The shopping malls have regular running groups before the stores open, and obviously are air-conditioned.
