W2R1 - Oh Scary!

Well, I did it. My first week last week. I had to repeat the first run as I failed that one miserably. But, all-in-all it was a good week and I feel quietly proud of myself.

I'm now looking forward (with a little trepidation) to my W2R1 tonight and hoping that an extra 30 seconds running is achievable.

I don't know if it's a good idea but I really started to enjoy myself last week when 'Don't Stop Me Now' by Queen came on my playlist. The rhythm seemed to match my jogging speed so I have put a few songs on my list that match. I'll let you know how I get on.

Go for it. I did the first run of week 2 yesterday and survived. How's the coat? Was thinking of you when the sun came out here and I shed some layers🏃🏻🏃🏻🏃🏻👍🏼👍🏼

The coat's gone (see below). Well done for doing your W2R1. Apart from surviving, how was it?

It wasn't easy but not a killer either. My major concern was when Laura gives advice on breathing. Apparently she breathes in as she puts down her left leg, then counts 2,3 and 4 left foot drop as she inhales. Then she breathes out for 4 left foot drops. I was stressed as to whether I would make it 90 seconds and just glad I wasn't holding my breath. I think I was breathing in on one drop, out in next, not sure but certainly way faster than she was suggesting. Decided to worry about that tomorrow (R2) , when I will know I can make the 90 mins. Keep going my friend, one day we will laugh at these issues we used to have!🏃🏼‍♀️👍🏼

Breathing is an automatic bodily function. If we leave alone it will take care if itself well enough. Focus on the running you are doing great!

Thanks Whatsapp. I thought I was good at multitasking but it seems not! Yes, I have decided to ignore the breathing until I have some of the other stuff nailed, just with it in back of my mind that I tend to breathe too often as aposed to holding my breath!

I think that if you breath too fast/heavily you run the risk of a sore throat. This is something that I've never been able to get through in the past. The C25K's "slow and steady" approach has meant that I've (so far) had no throat trouble.

Long live breathing 🤓

Thanks for the warning, I will keep and eye out for throat problems. As my running times extend. It's a good job my legs seem to be ok with is sport, I simply don't have time to worry about them along with everything else!!😀

Sounds complicated. I must have a different app. I have the BBC one with Sanjeev Kohli. He (up until now at least) just tells me when to run and when to walk. I love the way my music volume goes down just before he tells me to slow to a walk!

Good luck with R2. I'm waiting for my better half to come home so I can go for my R1. Can't wait (I think 😬).

I've been using the podcasts for the NHS choices C25k. Might check out the app you use, although I do love Laura ....and I need to remember how to switch back to UK App Store as I'm currently in Canadian one. ( Running apps here are full of horribly cras, irritating, condescending hosts. The UK ones seem to achieve encouragement without being patronising). I don't think I will ever be fully assimilated here!

Oh Canada. Sounds lovely.

Yes, The BBC app has a few hosts that you can choose from.

Mind you, I'm grateful for any app that motivates me to get fitter.

Cheers Irish John. Talking of spirit; I've not had a drop since the day before W1R1. How smug am I 😇

W2r1 no need for your coat - no stopping you now 🏃

Ha ha the coat has been replaced by a snazzy running top, phone arm-band and Bluetooth headphones curtesy of my very supportive wife. No excuses now 😬

So far I have been doing this secretly, I was thinking of ' coming out' as a runner if, sorry when, I complete maybe week 4 or 5. However, my husband (who runs very well, hence secrecy) may also be the source of such fabulous incentives for my success. I hadn't considered this, thanks for heads up! Maybe I will have to come clean sooner😉

Never underestimate a supportive spouse. If you're lucky enough to have one (like I have, thank goodness) you can do anything 😃

Or at least that's what she tells me 😉

I 'came out' to my brother at the start of week 3 and he was incredibly supportive 🙂

Excellent though the Laura C25k is, the advice on breathing and foot striking is best ignored

Glad to hear that you have support from your spouse, sounds like you're good to go with your new kit! Enjoy

You are doing brilliantly!!!! Really well done :)

Sadly, my signature tune is Chiquitita by ABBA... I love the pace in that.. slow and then a bit faster... I use that when I am a bit tired :) Matches my old feet wonderfully!

Onward and upward :)
